For the first version, we want to base the species discovery layer on a points layer made last year about new species logged onto iNaturalist.ca
It is available as a shp of points on the sharepoint under Blitz the Gap/where_to_blitz_2026/species_discoveries_layer/
We'd like to create a new rasterized version of this layer by (1) counting these points across cells, and (2) accounting for sampling effort using the iNat sampling density layer such that each cell shows the average number of new species logged per 10 000 observations.
