Learning-Path-Recommender

  1. Core Idea (Agent’s Job)

What it will do-> It will be a support to the student in order to make sure that he/she in on track with the course. First of all the agent should take input the learners pervious academic achievements and knowledge in the favored course. A basic test would be taken in order to assess the knowledge of the learner in the aspired course. Depending on the score of the test the agent would recommend a learning plan. The score could depict three situations: i)If the score is above 80% then student had grasped the pre-requisites regarding the course. The agent would generate plan stating the estimated time to complete the course along with estimated completion time on particular topic as well as estimated time to revise the topic and number of tests required for in depth understanding of the topic.

ii)If the score is below 80% and above 60% then student requires revisit those concepts and give the test again or would be provided a different plan with a longer duration so to brush up the basics of the topic first then start with the course itself.

iii)If the score is below 60% then student would be provided a plan to relearn the basic concepts and after attempting the test and scoring good the student would be provided with the plan regarding the further plan of the course.

The agent would understand student progress & goals and based on it would generate a personalized learning path (what to learn next, skip, revise).

Course → Units → Topics → Skills

Innovative Ideas:

  1. AI task: Summarization & clustering It would compress similar courses/topics together.
  1. Student Profile

Current knowledge level

Completed topics

Strengths & weak areas

Learning goal (exam, skill, career, curiosity)

Available time per day/week

👉 AI task: User modeling

  1. Key Features (A) Course compression engine

Idea- Use NLP to convert long course descriptions into:

i)Core concepts ii)Required prerequisites iii)Outcomes

Example: Instead of suggesting 10 python courses it would work like “You need loops, functions, lists → then OOP → then projects”

(B) Knowledge Gap Detector

Compare : What the student knows and what he/she requires and to what level does he/she would have to learn it to work on his/her terms. As the above test would reflect on the topics which the student already knows, only the topics which are unknown to student will be highlighted.

Example: "One already knows about Object Oriented Programming" then the agent would advise it to skip the theory and work on a project given by the agent.

(C)Dynamic Learning Path Generator

Idea: The agent creates a step by step path.

📍 Example Output:

Revise Algebra basics (2 days)

Learn Linear Equations (3 days)

Practice word problems (1 day)

Weekly mini-test

(D) Adaptive Path Updating Idea: If one of the below mentioned case arises:

If student feels unconfident about the topic then slow down & revise

If student performs well → fast-track content

This makes the agent adaptive, not static.

(E)Time Scheduling

Idea: The agent designs learning paths based on time constraints.

🕒 Example:

“You have 30 min/day → micro-lessons”

“You have 2 hours/day → deep learning blocks”

More Features: 🔹 NLP

Text summarization of course descriptions

Keyword extraction for skills

Topic clustering

🔹 Recommendation Systems

Content-based filtering (skills vs goals)

Similar learner paths

🔹 Knowledge Graphs (Very strong idea 💡)

Nodes = skills/topics

Edges = prerequisites

AI finds the shortest valid learning path

  1. Agent Architecture (Simple Version) Student Input → Profile Analyzer ↓ Course Catalog Compressor ↓ Knowledge Gap Analyzer ↓ Learning Path Generator ↓ Adaptive Feedback Loop

  2. Example Use Cases

📘 School students (exam-oriented paths)

💻 Coding learners (skill-based paths)

🎓 College students (degree planning)

🧠 Lifelong learners (interest-based paths)

  1. Unique / Stand-Out Ideas (For Extra Marks ⭐)

Explain WHY each topic is recommended

Visual roadmap (progress bar or skill tree)

“What if” mode → “If I skip this, what happens?”

Peer comparison (anonymous): “Students like you learned this next”

One-Line Pitch: “An AI agent that intelligently compresses course catalogs and student progress data to generate adaptive, goal-driven, and time-efficient personalized learning paths.”

About

Learning Path Recommender is an AI agent that intelligently compresses course catalogs and student progress data to generate adaptive, goal-driven, and time-efficient personalized learning paths. It evaluates a learner's current knowledge against a course's content by analyzing their profile and compressing course information.
