What changed

  • introduces a native browser-first main dashboard, with PDF translation presented as an optional component
  • moves detailed configuration into a split-view Settings window available from the gear button and Command–Comma
  • adds persisted System, Light, and Dark appearances plus a standalone appearance control
  • adds managed PDF runtime install, update, rollback, reclaimable-size reporting, and safe uninstall
  • ships the release build without the roughly 206 MB bundled Codex app-server and resolves an installed Codex CLI instead
  • updates the Homebrew/release pipeline, documentation, release notes, and visual QA evidence for 1.0.0

Why

The previous application opened into a configuration-heavy experience and bundled large runtimes with the base app. Browser translation is the default Gloss workflow, while PDF translation and its runtime are optional. The package also remained over 200 MB after separating PDF because the Codex app-server was still embedded.

Impact

  • the installed Gloss app is approximately 16 MB on arm64; the release ZIP is approximately 5.6 MB
  • browser translation status and extension actions are immediately visible
  • PDF and Codex payloads are outside the initial Gloss bundle
  • ChatGPT translation now requires a separately installed Codex CLI with the app-server subcommand
  • PDF uninstall preserves source PDFs, translated outputs, output-directory selections, and preferences

Validation

  • full Swift test suite: 222 XCTest tests passed, 4 skipped
  • Swift Testing suites: 70 tests passed
  • release build and ad-hoc code-sign verification passed
  • generated Homebrew cask passed syntax and policy validation
  • installed /Applications/Gloss.app verified at version 1.0.0 with no bundled gloss-codex-app-server
  • main dashboard, Settings entry points, appearance switching, and PDF component states verified in the native app
  • design QA: design-qa.md reports final result: passed
