Summary

• Add pytest-xdist 3.8.0 to the dev dependency group.
• Run pytest -n auto in the CI check job, the pre-commit pytest hook and the CONTRIBUTING check command.
• Keep the default pytest run serial, so UPDATE_GOLDEN=1 writes the golden images before any comparison reads them.

Testing

All green, 645 passed with the same 91.56% coverage. The suite takes about 50 s with -n auto on a 4-core machine, down from about 130 s.

Checklist

• Format, lint, type checks and tests pass.
• DESIGN_VERSION bumped and tests/golden written again if rendered images change.
• CHANGELOG.md updated under Unreleased for user-visible changes.
