Summary

  • Replace the traced Weather artwork (EL) with SVG drawn in code: a frosted cloud (clip path, palette fill layers, white rim) with the sun or moon blurred behind it through feGaussianBlur.
  • Use only design system palette colours in the artwork; drop the old bespoke weather colours from the colour allowlist.
  • Draw rain, showers, snow and lightning from the base of a smaller, higher cloud. Each falling part sits in a positioner that moves to a random spot on animationiteration, with its own duration; the bolt also flips and redraws through a 200 ms element.animate at each strike.
  • Draw fog as five blurred, gradient-ended haze bands.
  • Run slow motion (cloud and fog drift) on a 500 ms timer instead of frame-rate CSS, so blurred parts are not re-rasterised every frame. Pause CSS motion and the timer off screen and in hidden tabs with whileOnScreen, and stop all motion for prefers-reduced-motion.

Testing
All green, e2e included. Added weather-artwork.test.mjs: every condition draws by day and night, falling parts start and restart inside their lane, nothing blurred gets a frame-rate animation, and motion stops off screen and for reduced motion.

Changelog

Changed

  • Redraw the Weather widget artwork as frosted glass with gentle motion that pauses off screen.

Checklist

  • Stays within the project constraints: one container, no runtime dependencies, no build step (see CONTRIBUTING.md).
  • Tests added or updated for new logic, and the full suite, lint, and typechecks pass.
  • Docs updated if behavior or configuration changed.

Draw every condition in code instead of from traced artwork: a frosted
cloud with the sun or moon blurred behind it, palette colours only.
Rain, snow and lightning fall from the cloud base at random spots.
Fog is a set of drifting haze bands. Slow drift runs on a 500 ms timer,
and all motion stops off screen and for reduced motion.

Move the lightning flash with the cloud it lights. Put the far rain and
snow layer's opacity on its positioner, out of reach of the fall
animation. Start falling parts in evenly spaced lanes, and show them
below the cloud when motion is reduced.
