Turn any 2D image into a game-ready cardboard standee. A Blender add-on by Sketch494.
Auto Standee detects the subject in a PNG or JPG (alpha channel preferred, automatic background keying otherwise), traces and simplifies its outline, extrudes real cardboard thickness with a small edge bevel, generates exact-fit UVs, assigns a two-material set that needs only a single texture file, optionally adds a folding retail-style support stand, and exports engine-ready GLB, FBX, OBJ or STL.
Website: https://standee.sketch494.online, which includes a fully client-side browser version with a live 3D viewer.
- Subject detection from the alpha channel, or automatic background keying (corner sampling + Otsu threshold) for flat-background JPGs. Enclosed gaps (between arms and body, between legs) become real holes in the mesh.
- Low poly by construction. Marching squares + Ramer-Douglas-Peucker simplification with a hard Maximum Vertex Count budget, three Outline Accuracy levels, tiny-segment merging, and constrained Delaunay caps that add zero interior vertices.
- Watertight, manifold, clean. Front cap + back cap + one wall per boundary edge always closes. Duplicate vertices welded, degenerates dissolved, normals recalculated, flat shaded, manifold-audited on every generate.
- Real cardboard back. The front is your original image, untouched (never resized or re-encoded). The back, edges and stand are raw kraft cardboard with a bundled seamless texture, like a real retail standee. A Textured Cardboard toggle switches to a flat color for a strictly single-texture model, and an optional back image adds a third slot only when used.
- Folding support stand. Hinge flap with slot, tabbed easel leg with punched window, ground foot pad. Auto-sized from the cutout, matches cardboard thickness, adds roughly 50 vertices.
- Engine-ready exports. GLB (recommended), FBX, OBJ, STL with baked export scale, overwrite protection, folder validation, open-folder-after and auto-export-after-generate.
Tested headless on Blender 4.2 LTS and Blender 5.1 (19/19 checks on each). Compatible with Blender 3.6+.
- Download
auto_standee.zipfrom the latest release. - In Blender:
Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > Install...and pick the ZIP. On Blender 4.2+ you can instead useauto_standee-1.0.0-extension.zipviaInstall from Diskin the Extensions tab. - Enable Auto Standee.
- Open the sidebar in the 3D Viewport (
Nkey) and pick the Auto Standee tab.
- Input > Import Image and pick a PNG with transparency (or any flat-background image).
- Adjust Model Settings (thickness, height, bevel, accuracy, vertex budget).
- Tick Add Support Stand if you want the folding stand.
- Set an Export Folder and format (GLB recommended).
- Click Generate & Export.
The result imports directly into Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, Roblox Studio and any glTF viewer with no cleanup.
| Engine | Format | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Unity | GLB or FBX | Default import works; standee is Z-up-authored, exported Y-up |
| Unreal Engine | GLB or FBX | For FBX at Unreal's centimeter scale, set Export Scale to 100 |
| Godot | GLB | Drag and drop; materials import as StandardMaterial3D |
| Roblox Studio | GLB or FBX | Use the 3D Importer; single texture keeps asset moderation simple |
| Blender / viewers | GLB | Round-trips cleanly |
STL is geometry-only by format design (no UVs or materials); Auto Standee still exports clean watertight shells for it.
