Alarm: one refused alarm no longer stops the rest - #27
What was wrong: if Android refused one alarm (e.g. IllegalStateException at the per-app alarm limit), AlarmScheduler.schedule threw. Over the platform channel that became a PlatformException, so sync() stopped: every dose after it got no alarm, and the Today page stayed on its spinner. A reboot re-arm stopped part way the same way. (The "recorded as armed" part of the note wasn't real: the registry write already came after the call.)
Fix:
AlarmScheduler.schedule catches the failure, logs it, skips the registry, returns false. Covers every caller: sync, boot re-arm, snooze.
Dart counts refused alarms per sync. Today shows "Android refused N alarms" with Retry, because a refused alarm never rings and nothing else would say so before the dose is missed.
Checked:flutter analyze clean, flutter test (36, one new), debug APK builds. Not forced on a device: a refusal is hard to trigger.
AlarmScheduler.schedule now catches a RuntimeException from setAlarmClock or the
inexact fallback (e.g. IllegalStateException at Android's per-app alarm limit),
logs it, doesn't record the alarm as armed, and returns false. Before, the throw
became a PlatformException that ended sync() early (later doses unarmed, Today
stuck loading) and ended a reboot re-arm part way.
Dart counts refused alarms per sync and Today warns, since a refused alarm never
rings and nothing else would say so before the dose is missed.

Walkthrough
Android alarm scheduling now returns a success result or logs a runtime failure. Flutter propagates the result, counts refused alarms during sync, and displays a warning with a retry action on Today. Refused snooze attempts leave the action unpersisted and the alarm ringing.
AlarmScheduler.schedule returns true after recording an alarm. It catches RuntimeException, logs the dose ID, and returns false without recording the alarm. MainActivity forwards the result through the method channel. disarm removes the alarm and registry entry without cancelling a fallback notification.
Count and display refused alarms lib/services/alarm_bridge.dart, lib/services/scheduler.dart, lib/ui/today_page.dart, test/widget_test.dart, AGENTS.md
AlarmBridge.scheduleDose returns the native result, using false for a null response. DoseScheduler counts refused alarms during sync. Today displays a warning and retry action when the count is greater than zero. The widget test checks true, false, and null responses; AGENTS.md records the behavior.
AlarmActivity schedules snooze alarms before it records the pending action. If any scheduling attempt fails, it disarms the successful snoozes, shows an error toast, and returns without recording the action, stopping the ringing, or closing the activity.
SusieeTheLinuxUser/dosekeeper#22: Calls AlarmScheduler.rearmAll after backup restore; this change reports individual scheduling refusals.
Merge Risk: Low · up to d2ffb
Alarm refusal handling is mergeable with awareness that a failed data read during Retry can leave an outdated warning visible until a later successful refresh.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to d2ffb
The change improves alarm-refusal handling without an observed expansion of access to medication alarms. Remaining risk is bounded to alarm availability and recovery when scheduling or snoozing is interrupted.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The assessed change affects this installation's dose-alarm availability, native recovery records and notification lifecycle. The inspected changes do not introduce a cross-service or cross-tenant authority path.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Alarm delivery continues to use explicit component intents and immutable PendingIntents. AlarmActivity, AlarmReceiver and AlarmService remain non-exported. MainActivity and BootReceiver exports are unchanged, so source-level public method labels do not establish newly attacker-reachable alarm controls.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — Normal partial-refusal compensation improves failure containment, but it is not a transactional commit across Android alarms and preferences. Interruption after scheduling can precede pending-action persistence. This reverses a pre-existing ordering window; because Dart ignores SNOOZE events and keeps the dose pending, a missing SNOOZE event alone does not demonstrate a new security or dose-status integrity failure.

Add coverage for the refusal count and warning.
The test checks the bridge result but not the scheduler count or Today warning. Add tests for mixed refused and successful alarms, and for Retry clearing the warning after a successful sync.

Update the alarm count before the later reads.
If an adherence read fails after sync changes the count, Retry leaves the old warning visible and the error unhandled. Update _unarmed after sync and handle refresh errors.

Not changing this here. If any later read in refresh() throws, setState never runs at all, so moving _unarmed earlier wouldn't show anything new: the screen keeps whatever it had (or the spinner on first load). That's a general refresh() error-handling gap that predates this PR, not something this change adds.

@SusieeTheLinuxUser Understood. I’ll leave this change out of the PR. If a later read fails, the alarm count can remain stale or hidden.
Would you like me to open a follow-up issue for refresh error handling?

# DoseKeeper
## Why it's built this way
A medication reminder that doesn't fire is worse than no reminder, because you
trusted it. Everything here is shaped around that:
- **The app surfaces its own failure modes.** If exact alarms are blocked or battery
optimisation is enabled, the Today screen warns you and links straight to the fix.
If Android refuses the snooze alarm, stopping the ringing would mean the dose
never rings again. Now the alarm keeps ringing and a toast says the snooze
failed. The SNOOZE outcome is only recorded once the snooze is armed.

If some snooze alarms arm and another is refused, the screen keeps ringing,
so the armed ones are cancelled again. Otherwise tapping Taken next would ring
them once more in 10 minutes. AlarmScheduler.disarm cancels only the alarm,
not a ringing fallback notification.
