While the LEAP system does not have many special requirements for hardware, it has been designed to function with low resource computers like a Raspberry Pi.
The intent is not to constraint the number of systems on which LEAP could be deployed, but instead to provide a reference platform that is known to work and perform optimally. Users may decide to use different platforms, but your mileage may vary.
The following hardware has been selected:
- Raspberry Pi 4 with 1 GiB of DRAM.
- 16 GiB Class 10 micro SD card.
- 256 GiB USB 3.0 external drive.
- Official Raspberry Pi Power Adapter.
The target platform of LEAP is a Raspberry Pi 4 with 1 GiB of DRAM. This platform was chosen because:
- It is widely available and reasonably cheap (particularly so in the 1 GiB variant).
- Has gigabit ethernet, which helps to serve a larger number of local clients.
- Has USB 3.0, which can be used to attach an SSD and obtain reasonable performance to serve video clients (much more than what could be achieved from the MMC.
