Remember lock kinds across restarts - #50
Conversation
The will screen used to read most locks as "Container" or "Door" after a restart until each chunk loaded again while someone had /will open. OwnedLocks now also indexes block records by chunk. On ChunkLoadEvent, LockBlocks looks at the locks in that chunk and records world, kind and double-chest partner by the rules describe already used. A block counts only when it is the kind its store locks, and a record seen in one world is looked for only there. A chunk without locks costs one map lookup. What has been seen is saved to owned-lock-kinds.json in the data folder, keyed by store file name (data/0_0/1_64_2.json). It is loaded after the boot lock pass and applied only to records still held in the same store. It is written at most once a minute when it has changed, and on disable, with keys no longer held dropped. A missing file is a first start; an unreadable one logs one warning. The file is only a cache and never touches ownership or estates. A record also keeps what was seen of its block through owner and state changes. The
catchblock encloses the whole loop. If one entry has a missingworldorkind, or an unknown prefix, the loader throws. All entries after that one are then not applied. The test atLockKindFileTest.javaLine 103-104 checks this behaviour only for a file with a single entry. Because the file is only a cache, the impact is small. All affected locks recover when their chunks load.To skip only the bad entry, catch the exception for each entry. Then log one summary warning.

A lock file has no world, so a world learnt from a chunk load is only a sighting. Records now carry whether their world is bound: set only by a data-manager save or delete at the block, and persisted as "bound". An unbound record is looked for in server order exactly as the will screen does. An earlier world with a fitting block overrides the sighting, and a later world never displaces it while the sighted world's chunk is unloaded. A sighting whose own block no longer fits, with no other world fitting, is forgotten. Removing or replacing a container record clears the partner of any neighbouring half that named it, before the kind file is written. The will screen only merges two halves when the named half is not seen as another kind, in another world or naming another partner. The kind file save now copies the held records on the main thread and sorts, serialises and writes on a background task, one write at a time, dropping a snapshot older than the last one written. Disable writes at once. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… a kind saveNow now takes the writer's lock, so it waits for a background write still running. It then writes unless the current revision is the one actually on disk. A snapshot that was queued but not yet run, which the scheduler drops at disable, is written at shutdown, and a failed write of that revision gets a retry. A world bound by a save at the block is now tracked and persisted even before the block's kind is known. A record counts as known when its kind has been seen or its world is bound. The file leaves out "kind" until it is seen, and the loader restores a binding without one. A new lock, or a save that moves an earlier guess to another world, keeps its world across a restart. …r saved Neighbours' partner references were cleared whenever a container record was replaced by one without a kind. That also happened when the kind file restored a bound half whose block was never seen, or when such a half was saved unchanged, so a double chest seen from one side was listed twice after a restart. References are now cleared only when the record is removed or its seen kind is lost: the block was replaced, written from another world, or disproved by a look. Restoring or rewriting a record whose kind was never seen leaves them alone. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

The will screen named a lock (Chest, Barrel, Door…) only once its chunk had been loaded since the last restart, so after every restart most locks read "Container at x y z". A player with hundreds of chests saw almost nothing but "Container".
