AURELION is a Python-based Mandelbrot fractal explorer built with Pygame and NumPy. Explore colourful mathematical patterns with cursor-based zooming and background rendering.
- Cursor-Based Zoom: Zoom in and out around your mouse cursor.
- Live Preview: See an immediate preview while new details render.
- Background Rendering: Keep the window responsive during calculations.
- Colourful Fractals: Explore patterns within the Mandelbrot set.
- Deep Zoom: Discover increasingly detailed regions of the fractal.
- Python
- Pygame
- NumPy
- Threading and queues
python -m pip install pygame numpyMake sure main.py is in your project folder, then run:
python main.py| Control | Action |
|---|---|
| Mouse wheel up | Zoom in towards the cursor |
| Mouse wheel down | Zoom out around the cursor |
| ESC | Exit the application |
AURELION generates the Mandelbrot set using the equation:
[ z_{n+1}=z_n^2+c ]
Each pixel represents a complex number. The program iterates over these numbers to determine how their values behave and uses the results to colour the fractal.
New views are rendered in a background thread while the existing image provides a temporary preview.
- Deep zooms may take longer to render.
- Preview images may temporarily appear pixelated or stretched.
- Standard floating-point precision limits extreme magnification.
- The fractal has infinite mathematical detail, but each rendered image has finite resolution.
AURELION makes exploring fractals interactive and accessible, combining programming, mathematics, and visual art in an experience of seemingly endless discovery.
Made with Python, mathematics, and curiosity.
