Smriti

An elegant, distraction-free desktop application that delivers timeless wisdom right to your screen. Smriti gently surfaces shlokas (verses) as beautiful, floating cards while you work.

✨ Features

  • Unobtrusive & Elegant: Shlokas appear in a sleek, customizable floating card that softly fades in and out.
  • Interactive Reading: The popup starts by showing just the Sanskrit verse. When you have a moment, simply click the ⓘ (Info) button to smoothly expand the card and reveal the English translation.
  • Quick Controls: Need to pause the popups? Just click the || (Pause) button on the card, or hold Ctrl + Click anywhere on the popup to instantly dismiss it.
  • Complete Customization: Left-click the Smriti icon in your system tray to open the Settings panel. From there, you can tweak font sizes (separately for Sanskrit and English), change the background color, adjust how often popups appear, and even set a custom keyboard shortcut to dismiss them.
  • Click-Through Mode: Turn on "Click Through" in Settings, and the popup becomes completely ghost-like—your mouse clicks will pass right through it to the window beneath!
  • Shloka Manager: A dedicated, beautifully styled companion app is included to help you easily add, update, or remove shlokas from your collection without ever having to touch a spreadsheet.

🚀 Download & Run (No setup required!)

Getting started is incredibly simple:

  1. Download: Go to the Releases page and download Smriti-Windows.zip.
  2. Extract: Right-click the downloaded .zip file and select "Extract All...".
  3. Run: Open the extracted folder and double-click on Smriti.exe. That's it!

You will immediately see a golden lamp medallion icon appear in your system tray (near your clock in the bottom right corner of your screen).

🛠️ How to Use It

  • System Tray Icon: The heart of the app lives in your system tray.
    • Left-click the golden lamp icon to open the Settings dialog.
    • Right-click it to pause the reminders, skip to the next shloka, or quit the app.
  • Managing your Shlokas: If you want to add your own favorite verses, double-click on Shloka_manager.exe. This elegant tool lets you easily search, add, edit, and delete shlokas from your collection (shlokas.csv). It even features a Light/Dark theme toggle under the View menu!

⚙️ Tweaking it to your liking

Smriti is built to be customized. Open the Settings panel to adjust:

  • Timing: Choose how long the popup stays on screen, and how many seconds to wait between popups.
  • Appearance: Change the background opacity, accent colors, and dial in the exact font sizes for the Sanskrit verse and Translation text for maximum eye comfort.
  • Behaviour: Enable "Click-through" mode to pass mouse clicks & scrolls through the popup.
  • Hotkeys: Set a custom global keyboard shortcut (like Ctrl+Alt+X) to instantly dismiss a popup without using your mouse or you can enable 'quick hiding' to use Ctrl+click to hide the box.
