  • Practices every repository should keep, starting with a CITATION.cff so GitHub offers "Cite this repository", are expected but checked nowhere, so they quietly go missing.
  • Checks are on by default so a check added later reaches every consumer on upgrade instead of waiting to be switched on.
  • Skipping is per check and takes a reason, so a repository that opts out says why in its workflow, and a misspelled input is flagged by actionlint instead of silently switching nothing off.
  • Registered with release-please so it versions and tags as repo-health@vX.Y.Z like the other actions.

keys enclosed in either single or double quotes, while continuing to match
existing unquoted keys and collect required keys correctly.

SHA-pinned remote action: clarify that actionlint does not check its `with:`
input names, so a misspelled `citation-cff-skip` may only be reported by the
runner when the workflow runs.

Walkthrough

Adds a Node 24 GitHub Action that checks for a root-level CITATION.cff with required top-level keys. It supports check-specific skip reasons, validates the repository directory, and reports check results through GitHub Actions logs, outputs, and failure status.

Changes

Repo health action

Layer / File(s) Summary
Action contract and registration
actions/repo-health/action.yml, actions/repo-health/README.md, .github/release-please-*.json
Defines the action metadata and inputs, documents its workflow usage, and adds the package to release configuration and manifest.
Citation check and skip handling
actions/repo-health/lib/index.mjs, actions/repo-health/README.md, tests/node/repo-health/index.test.mjs
Adds the citation-cff check for an exact-case root-level file and required top-level keys. Validates skip reasons and repository paths. Documents and tests the check and input behavior.
Action execution and reporting
actions/repo-health/action.yml, actions/repo-health/lib/core.mjs, actions/repo-health/lib/index.mjs, actions/repo-health/lib/main.mjs
Adds input access, workflow logging, output writing, and failure reporting. Connects the action entry point to the check results and declares the failed output.

Quoted citation keys can cause a false failure, and misspelled inputs may escape static linting. Both have workarounds.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title names the change accurately. It adds a new repo-health GitHub Action, which is the main change in the changeset. The conventional-commit prefix 'feat(repo-health)' is consistent with the release-please registration in the diff.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description covers the main behaviors of the changeset. It explains that checks are enabled by default, that skipping is per check with a required reason, that misspelled inputs are flagged by actionlint, and that the action is registered with release-please for repo-health@vX.Y.Z tags. It also mentions the CITATION.cff check, which the changeset implements.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 33.33% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 9 functions across 4 files. (4 skipped: 4 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

A rabbit checks the citation file,
Then hops through keys in tidy style.
A skip needs words, not “true” or “false,”
The action logs each check’s results.
Failed IDs take a leafy ride,
While bun and code leap side by side.

PR Summary

Low Risk
New standalone action and release metadata only; no changes to existing actions or auth/data paths.

Overview
Introduces a new repo-health composite action that fails the workflow when a checked-out repository does not meet org-wide hygiene rules, starting with a citation-cff check for root CITATION.cff (exact casing) and required CFF 1.2.0 top-level keys.

Checks are on by default; waivers use per-check <check>-skip inputs that must carry a text reason (bare booleans error). Skipped checks still run and emit warnings—including a nudge to remove the skip once the check passes. The action exposes a failed JSON output and uses a small core.mjs shim instead of @actions/core so the runner executes the same ESM the tests cover.

Release-please is wired for repo-health@vX.Y.Z (manifest 0.0.0). Node tests cover citation validation, skip semantics, and missing checkout paths.
