WalkthroughThe PR adds an ordered environment-value pipeline to the protobuf schema. It supports splitting, trimming, decoding, and byte-size constraints. It deprecates earlier split and trim fields, updates examples and generator rules, and adds pipeline documentation. ChangesEnvironment Value Pipeline

In `@docs/explanation/env-value-decoding.md`:
- Line 83: Update the documented env-value decoding flow to branch on whether
the value is present: apply split_delimiter and trim only to present values,
while absent values use default_value unchanged as a single repeated item. For
configured defaults, continue through decode, cast, and constraint validation
without splitting or trimming.
In `@proto/trogon/env/v1alpha1/options.proto`:
- Line 312: Clarify the EnvVarOption.decode contract to state whether a
type-cast failure rejects the current decoder output and allows trying the next
decoder, covering cases where constraints pass but casting fails. Add one
cross-generator test vector that exercises this behavior, such as a Base64 value
satisfying byte_size but failing UTF-8 string casting.

The old shape spread one procedure across independent keys, so the order they ran in, and whether each one described the whole variable or a single element, lived only in comments. A reader had to trust prose to know what a constraint applied to. Operators also supply the same key in more than one encoding, and no reading of the input is decidable without the expected size, so that rule belongs next to the choice it resolves rather than restated by every hand-written loader. In `@docs/explanation/env-value-pipeline.md`:
- Line 69: Update the `require` entry in the field-type table to list only
`bytes` and `string` fields, replacing the current `any field` scope while
preserving its validation and no-new-value behavior.
In `@proto/trogon/env/v1alpha1/options.proto`:
- Line 59: Require exactly one value in the ByteSize.bound oneof, rejecting
empty ByteSize constraints; enforce this invariant both in Decode.accept
candidate validation and in the generator requirements.

An empty byte size passed the non-empty constraints rule while declaring no predicate, which would leave a multi-candidate decode with nothing to select on and let generators disagree about the winner. Signed-off-by: Yordis Prieto <yordis.prieto@gmail.com>

stepslist puts the procedure in the data, where it cannot be gotten wrong by a reader.splitis the only operation that changes how many values are in play, which makes it the scope boundary: steps before it see the whole variable, steps after it run per element. That answers the question the old shape could not, namely whether a size constraint applies to each element or to the whole string.decode.any_ofholds the readings anddecode.acceptholds the rule that picks between them, so the size is stated once instead of once for selection and again for validation.stepsruns every entry in order whileany_ofuses at most one, so the quantifier is in the field name rather than in a comment a reader has to find.trimpreviously requiredsplit_delimiter, which made a singular field impossible to trim and leftKEY=$(cat key.b64)unloadable because nothing could strip the trailing newline. Steps have no such dependency.default_valuehad three competing rules across its own comment and its own example. It now substitutes at the start of the pipeline and flows through every step, so there is one rule and no second spelling to learn.Behavior change worth a close read:
default_valuenow runs through the pipeline. The prior comment said defaults were never split or trimmed while the example beside it showed"8080,8081"becoming[8080, 8081], which requires splitting, so this settles a contradiction rather than replacing a working rule.split_delimiterandtrimare[deprecated = true]and kept for one release; combining them withstepsis a schema error.buf breakingpasses.
