The UTDesign fabrication shop is an area for the modification or fabrication of parts and items that are integral to our students’ success. The shop is well equipped with powered and unpowered tools capable of working wood, foam, plastics and soft metals. Students who have completed their online and in-person training will get full access to the shop during open hours. Students who have not completed their training will have to speak with the fabrication staff about processing jobs for their team.

The Tool Access System aims to create a safe environment for students to work with power tools and equipment at the FabLab. By simply scanning a student's comet card, students can turn on any machine/tool if they have been trained. An administrator can add or remove any student by again scanning their respective comet card.
