What?

Add hosting provider skill based on wordpress.org/hosting/ page.

Why?

The existing wp-hosting skill covers server-level configuration (Nginx, PHP, MySQL, etc.) but gives no guidance on where to host a WordPress site. Users asking "which hosting provider should I use?" had no dedicated skill to route to. This gap also left no place to surface WordPress's sustainability initiatives — specifically Five for the Future — when recommending hosts.

How?

The skill is built from the criteria and recommendations published at wordpress.org/hosting/ and covers:

  • Evaluation criteria — technical (PHP version, SSL, caching, backups, staging), trust/compliance (GPL, branding, responsible security posture), and community alignment
  • Recommended hosts — matching the current wordpress.org list, each with strengths and ideal use cases
  • Five for the Future — explains the pledge, why it matters for open-source sustainability, how to verify a host's contribution level, and questions users can ask prospective hosts
  • Decision guide — table mapping traffic, budget, technical skill, and community values to the right hosting tier
  • Escalation paths — routes to wp-hosting when a provider is already chosen and server config is needed
