I primarily build enterprise business applications, specializing in Web APIs and database design, though I regularly venture into frontend state management, developer tooling, and automation as well.
Beyond writing code, I like stepping into project leadership and coordination roles when the opportunity arises. I enjoy helping projects succeed even when the constraints are messy, the requirements are unclear, or things have gone a bit sideways. At the end of the day, I want to be known not only as someone who solves difficult problems, but as a high-integrity, pleasant person who makes the people around them better (which may involve holding them to high standards).
Outside of my day-to-day work, my favorite domains to explore are:
- Game Development
- Developer & Artist Tooling / Automation
- Scientific Computing
My engineering philosophy leans heavily on KISS, YAGNI, and the 80/20 rule. I prefer simple systems that solve the actual problem over unnecessary abstraction or complexity. At the same time, I take testing (manual, unit, integration, performance, and snapshot) and technical debt seriously. Sometimes debt is useful; the important part is taking it on intentionally.
I primarily work with .NET / C#, TypeScript (especially Angular), and SQL (which I genuinely enjoy writing). My current favorite language is Zig, particularly for its emphasis on making low-level programming explicit without making it unnecessarily painful. I’m also a fan of the array-programming paradigm found in MATLAB, NumPy, and Julia; functional programming when it fits the problem; and working in game engines such as Godot and Unity.
If you're looking for a kind, pragmatic engineer with very high standards and extremely ambitious goals who can align those ambitions with yours to deliver meaningful projects and features (whether as a technical or business consultant) feel free to reach out at abmarnie9@gmail.com.
