docs(keys): mark keys.rs namespace partition reserved and pin its folding with tests (Closes #626) - #796
Conversation
… with tests contracts/common/src/keys.rs promised that key collisions become "a compile error rather than a runtime surprise", but git grep shows no contract imports keys:: - every contract still defines its own flat DataKey, so the partition never reaches on-chain storage and its behaviour was only asserted at compile time. Take the honest "reserved" outcome from accensa#626: rewrite the module doc to state there is no production consumer (and that adoption needs a storage-compatibility plan), and add runtime tests that pin discriminant() folding for every namespace pair and the uniqueness of each namespace's local discriminants. No public item changes; `pub mod keys;` in contracts/common/src/lib.rs stays as-is. Doc + tests only, so no user-facing changelog entry (skip-changelog). MergeKeeper review Scope: in scope for linked issue The PR successfully addresses issue #626 by updating the documentation of contracts/common/src/keys.rs to reflect that the namespace partition is reserved and unused by contracts, while adding thorough inline unit tests pinning discriminant folding and local uniqueness. All constraints, verification steps, and file ownership rules have been strictly followed. Reviewed commit: |

Distinguish ledger-key encoding from discriminant().
The module docs state that persisted ledger keys use variant position. Soroban #[contracttype] serialization uses variant names. DataKey::discriminant() is a separate position-based helper. Describe both formats so the storage-compatibility plan covers serialized keys.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Make the key-coverage check exhaustive.
If someone adds a VaultKey variant but omits it from ALL_DATA_KEYS, these counts remain unchanged and the tests pass. The compile-time collision check also misses that variant. Add an exhaustive check against each key enum so a new variant requires a corresponding ALL_DATA_KEYS entry.

Heads-up for maintainers: this PR changes only |
The changelog & version check on PR accensa#796 requires a CHANGELOG.md entry for any contracts/**/src/** change, and the skip-changelog escape hatch cannot be applied (label absent, token lacks triage rights). Add a truthful entry under ## [Unreleased] -> ### Changed describing only what 53488f8 did: the keys module doc marking the namespace partition reserved, and the runtime tests pinning discriminant folding. No public item or behavior change is claimed. Refs accensa#626 🤖 Generated with Codebuff Co-Authored-By: Codebuff <noreply@codebuff.com>

Closes #626
Resolves
contracts/common/src/keys.rs(issue #430) using the issue's second, "reserved" outcome — the smaller, truthful option — and stays entirely inside that file.git grepat the base commit confirms the issue's diagnosis:keys.rsis declared exactly once (contracts/common/src/lib.rs:310) and imported by nothing else in the workspace. Every contract still defines its own flatDataKey, so the namespace partition never reaches on-chain storage, yet the module doc claimed it "makes that class of bug a compile error rather than a runtime surprise" as if it were enforced workspace-wide.1. Module doc rewritten to state the truth
The
//!header now opens with an "Adoption status: reserved — no contract uses this partition yet" section that says:contracts/common/src/lib.rsand no contract imports it;The remainder of the doc now scopes every guarantee ("For the key enums defined in this module, that class of bug becomes a compile error…") to the module instead of implying workspace-wide enforcement.
