A look back at us.
A beautifully crafted, privacy-first web tool that turns your raw Instagram chat exports into a readable, nostalgic timeline.
Ever tried reading your downloaded Instagram chat history? It's kind of a nightmare. You're handed a folder full of backwards HTML files that read like cold server logs. It makes it almost impossible to actually sit down, scroll back, and just reminisce.
Memoir fixes that. It takes your messy message_X.html files, parses the text, flips them into chronological order, and wraps the whole thing in a delicate, glassmorphism UI. It’s designed to feel less like reading a database and more like flipping through a diary of the time you’ve spent with someone.
- 🌬️ It Breathes: Features a soft, frosted-glass design with a dynamic, ambient background and a smooth dark/light mode toggle.
- 🗓️ Paced Reading: Automatically parses timestamps and injects elegant date-dividers, breaking up endless walls of text into readable "chapters" of days and weeks.
- 🔍 Contextual Search: Pinpoint that exact inside joke. You can isolate your timeline to only show messages containing specific words, or highlight those words within the full flow of the conversation.
- 🔒 100% Private & Local: These are your private memories. Memoir has no servers, no databases, and no APIs. Your chat files never leave your computer—everything is parsed and rendered locally right in your browser.
- Get your data: Request your download from Instagram (Make sure to select HTML format, not JSON).
- Find the chat: Unzip the data, go to your messages, and open the specific chat folder. You'll see files named
message_1.html,message_2.html, etc. - Launch Memoir: Just open
index.htmlin any modern web browser. - Load them up: Click "Choose Files", select all the HTML files from that folder, and hit format.
- Grab a coffee, scroll back to day one, and enjoy. ☕
Built purely with vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. No frameworks, no dependencies. Just clean code.
