Hermes Skills — Memory & Skill Management

Two skills for Hermes Agent: how to manage your agent's knowledge and skills effectively.

Skills

memory-management

The definitive decision framework for what goes where across Hermes's five memory layers (SOUL.md / USER.md / MEMORY.md / skills / AGENTS.md). Covers:

  • Five-layer model with explicit capacity limits
  • Decision matrix: what content belongs in which layer
  • "DO NOT Save" negative checklist — knowing what to skip is as important as knowing what to save
  • Write protocol (declarative vs imperative, density rules, duplicate prevention)
  • Read protocol: when to check what (auto-injected vs on-demand layers)
  • Cleanup & consolidation procedure (manual + cron-automated "dreaming")
  • 7-Day Test: "Will this fact still matter in a session 7 days from now?"

Triggers: "整理记忆", "clean up your memory", or any memory(action='add') call.

skill-management

The skill lifecycle decision center. Not "how to write a skill" (that's hermes-agent-skill-authoring), but "should I write one?" and "how do I maintain what I have?" Covers:

  • Create-time decision tree: 5 questions before creating any skill
  • Patch vs create guidance
  • Four diagnostic actions for skill auditing: dedup, staleness detection, quality check, security
  • Consolidation pattern: merging overlapping skills with absorbed_into
  • Integration with Hermes curator and bundled skill system

Triggers: before skill_manage(action='create'), "整理skill", "audit your skills".

  name='nightly-memory-consolidation',
  schedule='0 3 * * *',
  skills=['memory-management'],
  workdir='/home/user/workspace',
  deliver='local',
  prompt='Load and follow the memory-management skill consolidation procedure. Audit all current memory entries, remove stale ones, merge related ones, report changes.')
