Why

The master deploy is blocked. The build of the #57 merge failed twice in "Install image and document tools" with exit 124. Before that:

• the same step failed once on SeAn-CP search-path sphere and chapter placement of the Research data figures #56;
• the deploy of the SeAn-CP search-path sphere and chapter placement of the Research data figures #56 merge was cancelled by the multifat criteria comparison (FIG. R02.2) and automatic refresh of code-generated figures #57 push.

So neither change is live yet. Every time, apt stalled while downloading fonts-urw-base35 (11 MB) from the Azure mirror.

Changes

• --no-install-recommends for imagemagick webp pandoc, in build.yml and preview.yml. The recommended packages are not needed for the responsive JPEG/PNG → WebP images:

  • Ghostscript;
  • URW fonts;
  • netpbm;
  • libmagickcore-6.q16-7-extra.

  This removes about 45 MB of downloads, including the package that stalls. The WebP coder ships in libmagickcore-6.q16-7t64, and local checks confirm both points:

  • dpkg -S …/coders/webp.so reports that core package;
  • convert x.jpg -resize 480 x.webp works on an Ubuntu 24.04 image without the recommended packages;
  • the full production build passes in that environment.

• Working fallback mirror. Ubuntu 24.04 runners resolve sources through /etc/apt/apt-mirrors.txt (the log shows Get:1 file:/etc/apt/apt-mirrors.txt Mirrorlist). The fallback sed did not touch that file, so the "retry against archive.ubuntu.com" still downloaded from azure.archive.ubuntu.com. The file is now rewritten too.

After merging

The push to master rebuilds and deploys #56 and #57 together:

• FIG. R02.2 multifat comparison.
