The sleep screen sometimes shows different configurations. Sometimes just the device name, other times device name with calendar. And other times just the priorities and nothing else.
It seems like it depends which screen I was on last.
Serial log (optional, but it usually solves it outright)
Seems like the issue of priorities missing was because I had previously had a priority and then restored. Once I added one prioritys came up fine. Seems like this may just be an issue of communicating empty state. If there are no priorities, you might want to consider just showing “no priorities.“ or at least something similar, because currently it’s showing the device name “xphone,” which seems to be not changeable.
Thanks — and good eye: your guess is exactly right.
This is working as intended. The sleep screen is adaptive: it shows whatever app you were last in. Leave the device on Priorities and it sleeps showing your priorities; leave it on Workout and you get today's workout; from most other screens you get the wordmark, with your next calendar event and any active Block underneath when there is something to show.
The idea is that the screen you leave it on is the one you want to glance at while it sits on your desk. But you are not the first person to read the variation as a bug, which tells me it needs to be either explained or made optional.
So: we are building a sleep screen setting, where you can pin one screen instead of letting it follow you around — and that is also where a custom photo or book cover will live (#35). No date yet, but it is on the list.
When a somewhat related note on the latest release, I noticed that priority has a single line limit, so if you have a longer entry it will not wrap. There should be ample room to just have it wrap, don't you think?
EDIT: Actually, now that I think about it, as this screen grows in side with other items, it wouldn't be great to have more than one line per item. It's nice to see things at a glance.
The published firmware 0.7.3 RC1 includes a sleep-screen appearance change: sleep uses a light background like nap, with a clear moon icon and asleep label. It no longer switches to a dark background for sleep.
This does not complete the earlier promise of a setting to pin any sleep screen. That selection is not exposed in the release build, and custom photos/book covers are still tracked in #35. The content can still depend on the current activity and available priorities/calendar data.
Keeping this open for the remaining screen-selection and empty-state work.
Keeping this open. This also tracks the sleep-screen calendar question from #46: the screen does not show the phone’s full Up Next list. The remaining work is screen selection and clearer handling of missing priorities/calendar content. The separate wrong-day report remains in #53.
Firmware 0.7.3 is now the stable release. Its light sleep background and moon icon do not resolve these content questions.

Leaving this open to track that setting.
