Setting up the new PC
Every time I set up a new PC I end up "discovering" all the dependencies between the bits of software I run. I have yet to have this all written down in personal space. I have it written down in my personal wikispace at work, but since that is the internal wiki at three separate companies, I guess I did it in the wrong place. I also, somewhere, have several ring binders associated with personal PCs in the house, but who wants to hunt down the binder when installing a new app to quickly get something done.
One problem I have is remembering where I got stuff. It always used to be the vendors website's downloads page, but now with app stores, and package managers like home-brew, pip et al, it gets very confusing. Since install instructions vary from vendor to vendor, and between operating systems, I will sketch the process rather than fully document.
I have just installed SlickEdit and VS Code from their respective websites It turns out you will need to install the command line tools for Git. To do this I need Homebrew OR MacPorts. ( I accidentally did both - yay it'll be all messed up now) Homebrew website gives a curl link. MacPorts website downloads an installer. Then you need to run a command line in a new terminal that has the path to the newly installed MacPorts.
