On a Mac with Xcode's Metal toolchain:
The `.metal` sources need Xcode's Metal compiler. Install full Xcode and its Metal Toolchain component
(`xcodebuild -downloadComponent MetalToolchain`); the Command Line Tools alone fail every kernel compile with
`unable to find utility "metal"`.
