Sound issues

Hi, running 6.0.1 on my MacBook Pro running Sonoma 14.5

Atari800MacX sometimes causes the Mac to make little clicky sounds, even when it's in the background and I'm not actively using it. I'm not sure if it happens when emulation is paused. Occasionally, the app seems to mess up the Mac's sound subsystem, causing all computer audio to be very very quiet, which requires a reboot or restarting coreaudiod

I wonder if with the new atari800 core, the problem persists.

Also, I understand you say it is in the background, but what are you running specifically in the emulator? Or it doesn' t matter and always does the click regardless of the program?

Yes, it doesn't seem to matter. It happens when doing nothing at the READY prompt, for instance.

No I haven't tried 7.0 yet but I will!

Ok, I will see if I can hear it with the old version 6 and compare with version 7.... I am on a newer version than you (Sequoia 15.5) but I doubt that would make a difference for this click.

Oh, also, tell me what machine you are emulating, and if you are using Altirra OS and Basic or the Atari ones please.

Sorry for the very slow reply. I have also noticed the problem occasionally with Version 7. I generally emulate the 130XE using real Atari ROMs.

Hi! I'd like to report the same issue, but with an extension that the emulator seems to momentarily freeze/stutter along with the sound glitches. I just tested the Commando cartridge image (https://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-commando_1153.html), and the problem is very pronounced, essentially unplayable. (I know this is a game prototype, but I think it's regarded playable okay.)
I tried to test the beta, but it seems it runs on Silicon only? I'm using the emulator on Macbook Air 13-inch Early 2015, Monterey.

What version are you running? You should be running the latest releasse, 6.1. If the Beta you referred to was the 7.0 Beta, that was not an official release, and at this point there will be no 7.0. A 6.2 version is under development now. The 6.1 version is a Universal application.

@savetz and @anatolbaskak , can you try the 6.2.0 Beta1 version I just released. It includes a much newer version of libsdl which handles a lot of the sound. I'm hoping it may help with this issue, as I'm not able to repeat it.

@atarimacosx 6.2.0 Beta1 is still making occasional little popping sounds, sometimes even when I'm not using it, it's just running in the background.

@atarimacosx It seems to be much better, though not perfect, still. I have to admit Fuse and Vice both have stutter issues on this machine, which seems odd.

Commando is quite playable now with occasional minor stutter. Also occasional little popping sounds as @savetz reported.
