The Homebrew jolt formula ships jolt without the compiler. probe shelled out to joltc run regardless, so on that install the task started the mock Runtime API and then waited on a process that could never start -- for minutes. Check for joltc on PATH first and exit 1 with the install hint.
One switch, LAMBDA_ENDPOINT_URL: unset, every aws CLI call behaves exactly as before (real AWS). Set, every aws call made by deploy/invoke/teardown/ bench/demo is redirected to the endpoint with LocalStack's dummy credentials, and the real-AWS credential preflight is skipped -- so the whole lifecycle runs with no AWS account at all. - script/localstack.clj: pure helpers (endpoint parsing, aws argv rewriting, dummy-credential env, docker run argv) with unit tests - script/localstack_run.clj + jolt localstack:start|demo|stop|status: bring up a LocalStack container, then run this repo's own tasks against it. Image pinned to localstack/localstack:4.13.1 -- everything newer (March 2026 licensing change) exits 55 without LOCALSTACK_AUTH_TOKEN; LOCALSTACK_AUTH_TOKEN/LOCALSTACK_IMAGE are honored for those who have one - jolt test now covers the localstack helpers too - docs/guide/localstack.md: quickstart, the env var, version pinning, and why LocalStack numbers are useless for the cold/warm bench question Verified end to end on this machine: localstack:demo deployed the arm64 zip and invoked it (hello from jolt on lambda, warm_invocation counter), teardown + stop clean up both the function and the container.
