SomnacinDumper-CPUCoreMod

Change CPU Core Configuration on AMD Ariel SoCs

Software Requirements

  • Pi Pico Toolchain
  • Xtensa Toolchain (I used an ancient ESP32 GCC 5.2.0 toolchain, seems to work fine)
  • PuTTY (use any serial monitor of your liking)

Hardware Requirements

  • Pi Pico 2 (Pico 1 untested)
  • Connection scheme is unchanged from SomnacinDumper
  • Reset out directly connected to mainboard pin (no MOSFET)

Supported Firmware

  • For 4700S target: BIOS Revision C03
  • For BC-250 target: BIOS Version 5.0

Usage

For AMD 4700S (will attempt to downcore to 6 cores):

./run_4700s.sh

For AMD BC-250 (will attempt to upcore to 8 cores):

./run_bc250.sh

The scripts assume that your Pico is at /dev/ttyACM0. Modify them if neccessary.

What works and what doesn't

4700S: Successfully downcores from 8 to 6 cores

BC-250: Fails to boot, x86 BIOS gets stuck at x86 core init (see sessionlog_bc250.txt for post codes). I have only tested one unit.
