In the FastAPI backend, CPU-bound functions like `bcrypt.checkpw` and `bcrypt.hashpw` block the asyncio event loop entirely during execution. This commit updates `backend/auth.py` to wrap `verify_password` and `get_password_hash` with `starlette.concurrency.run_in_threadpool`, making them asynchronous and non-blocking, and updates all relevant call sites in `backend/main.py`. Testing showed a substantial performance improvement under concurrent load (handling 10 simultaneous login/hash requests dropped from ~3.5 seconds to ~0.9 seconds).
