technology for people on a small budget. That's good, important work, and it's the
ground evig grew from. We name it, and we're grateful for it.

That work is good for the planet. A repaired laptop is a laptop that didn't have to
be mined, manufactured, and shipped a second time. But we came to see something the

# Revamp-IT Mission Statement
# evig — Mission Statement

## Official Mission

**Revamp-IT is a Swiss nonprofit organization dedicated to enabling free exchange of technology between individuals and groups, promoting open-source hardware and software as the ideal form of human collaboration.**
> Narrative SSOT for voice and story is [`EVIG_STORY.md`](EVIG_STORY.md). This file
> is the compact mission reference. Facts stay honest to `src/config/org.ts` and
> `.claude/CLAUDE.md`: evig is a **gemeinnütziger Verein in Gründung**, founded 2026
> in Zürich — no invented metrics, no tax-receipt or recognised-charity claims until
> the Verein is registered and recognised.

---

## Core Principles

### 1. Free Exchange of Technology
## Official Mission

We enable **free, nonprofit exchange** of technology between individuals and groups. Technology includes:
**evig makes access to intelligence affordable to everyone — good, durable hardware,
the software and knowledge to use it, and the AI and (in time) robotics that
increasingly decide who gets to take part. Curated, not junk refurb; a
market-and-quality model run as a non-profit, where affordable pricing is the
product, not a subsidy.**

- **Hardware**: Old computers, computer parts, synthesizers, DJ controllers, peripherals, bicycles, furniture
- **Software**: Old proprietary software given away for free, open-source software
- **Resources**: Compute resources (servers), memory resources (storage), cloud infrastructure
The single sentence behind everything: **intelligence should be reachable by anyone,
anywhere — and kept reachable, for longer.**

**Key Principle**: All technology redistribution happens on a **nonprofit, free basis**.
---

### 2. Open Source Advocacy
## Origins — Revamp-IT

**Goal**: Enable open-source hardware and software to compete fairly with proprietary solutions.
evig is a 2026 spin-off from [**Revamp-IT**](https://www.revamp-it.ch), the Zürich
circular-IT non-profit it grew out of. We name and honour that root — Revamp-IT's
history is **Revamp-IT's**, never claimed as evig's own.

**Philosophy**:
- Open source is the **ideal way for humans to collaborate**
- As development becomes more decentralized (can be done without big teams), open source will **ultimately exceed the capacities of big, centralized corporations**
- The most beautiful way for this to happen is through **technological collaboration and exchange beyond national boundaries**
- **Revamp-IT** — *im Handelsregister eingetragener, selbsttragender gemeinnütziger
Verein*, Zürich. Since **2003**: refurbishing used hardware, installing Linux and
open-source software, running workshops, and making computing accessible to people
with limited means. Address: Birmensdorferstrasse 379, 8055 Zürich · https://revamp-it.ch
- **The divergence** — evig wanted to carry the same circular-IT conviction fast and
far, as an independent organisation aimed at *access to intelligence* (AI, robotics,
open tech). Revamp-IT stays with repair and reuse at a calm, local pace. A different
goal and tempo — both legitimate. So evig set out on its own: full ownership, no
committee to convince, the same roots aimed at a bolder destination.

**Vision**: Make technological collaboration and exchange easy and simple, transcending national boundaries.
---

### 3. Subscription Exchange & Transition Support
## Core Principles

**When Subscriptions Are Needed**:
- Facilitate easy community funding of subscriptions
- Enable individuals to support each other's technology needs
- Provide transition path from proprietary to open-source
### 1. Access to intelligence is the inequality worth closing

**Open Source First**:
- Maintain open-source alternatives until they reach sufficient maturity
- Provide computers equipped with **fully open-source AI and blockchain solutions**
- Rank technology upgrades by **environmental impact**
Inequality of income and wealth are symptoms; the inequality that compounds hardest
today is **unequal access to intelligence** — the compute, AI, and (soon) robots that
multiply what a person can do and hand back their time. evig exists to put those tools
within reach of people, not just institutions and the wealthy.

### 4. Environmental Impact Awareness
### 2. Circular economy is the affordability engine

**CO2 Measurement**:
- Measure all electricity use: toasters, TVs, computers, AI, robotics, food production
- Enable individuals to understand their **true environmental impact**
- Rank technology upgrades by environmental impact
Good technology kept in circulation instead of turning to waste is what makes it
affordable. A refurbished laptop is both the greener choice **and** the cheapest
on-ramp to AI that exists. Reuse as energy, not obligation — *this still has a life in
it; let's raise it for longer.*

**Sustainability Focus**:
- Promote environmentally conscious technology choices
- Support circular economy through technology redistribution
- Reduce e-waste through refurbishment and reuse
### 3. Complete, working, honest — quality is a promise, not a lottery

### 5. Education & Digital Inclusion
evig sells complete, working machines (and, in time, robots) — never parts, never
"good enough." When we say a machine is good for a real purpose, the software is
installed and configured and it works the moment you open the lid. Fitness for a
concrete purpose is the product; a spec sheet isn't.

- Technical education on Linux, open-source software, hardware repair
- Workshops on sustainable technology practices
- Digital inclusion programs for underserved communities
- Community building and knowledge sharing
### 4. Hardware, software, and knowledge — handed over together

---
Owning the box isn't the point; *doing the thing* is. evig brings three things closer
to people: **hardware** (curated, capable, reachable), **software** (set up and honest
about what it's for), and **knowledge** (workshops, repair café, a technician network,
and research published in the open).

## Nonprofit Status
### 5. Research in the open

Revamp-IT operates as a **Swiss nonprofit organization** with the following principles:
evig investigates — affordable AI, running intelligence on humble and second-life
hardware, open robotics, repair, sovereignty over your own tools — and publishes what
it finds. R&D is the engine under the curation, and the honest basis for every promise
evig makes. We never cite a finding we haven't actually published.

- ✅ **No Profit Distribution**: All surplus funds reinvested into mission
- ✅ **Public Benefit**: Activities serve public good
- ✅ **Non-Commercial Primary Purpose**: Technology redistribution, not profit generation
- ✅ **Transparency**: Financial records and activities are transparent
### 6. Ways to raise your way to intelligence

**See [Legal Compliance Documentation](LEGAL_NONPROFIT_COMPLIANCE.md) for full details.**
Alongside buying outright, evig is building pooled and shared financing so access
doesn't depend only on what's already in your wallet: subscription crowdfunding,
shared-subscription pools, and direct support (donate a device, fund a tool, sponsor a
workshop seat). The tagline lives here: **raise for longer.**

---

## Activities

### Technology Redistribution
- Free/nonprofit exchange of computers, hardware, software, compute resources
- Refurbishment and repair services
- Community technology sharing

### Open Source Advocacy
- Promote open-source solutions
- Provide open-source alternatives
- Support decentralized development

### Environmental Impact
- CO2 tracking and measurement
- Environmental impact ranking
- Sustainability education

### Education
- Workshops and training
- Technical support
- Community building

### Subscription Exchange (When Needed)
- Facilitate community funding
- Support transition to open-source
- Enable access to necessary proprietary tools

---
## Legal & non-profit status

## Vision Statement
evig is a **gemeinnütziger Verein in Gründung** (non-profit association being founded),
2026, Zürich. Until the Verein is registered **and** recognised as tax-exempt by the
canton, evig does **not** issue tax-deductible donation receipts and does not claim
recognised charitable status. It is stated plainly as "in Gründung", never hidden.

**As development becomes more decentralized and can be done without big teams, open source will ultimately exceed the capacities of big, centralized corporations. The most beautiful way for this to happen is through technological collaboration and exchange beyond national boundaries, making it easy and simple for individuals and groups to share technology, knowledge, and resources.**
The platform is open-source ([MIT](../LICENSE)) so other circular-economy
organisations can adopt it directly.
