Hi @blindmansion! First off, thanks for the amazing library.
I started using it for a Obsidian Plugin I'm working on and I needed support to partial clones (--filter option), so I forked the project and had Astra work out the details for me. It seems to be working very well for my use-case and I'd like to know if you are interested in something like that. Just let me know and I can open a PR if the these changes look good enough to you.
I'm working on a git sync plugin: https://github.com/thiagomajesk/gitbin (just got published).
It's very similar to other plugins, except it uses CRDTs for conflict resolution + a bit more polish in the UI.
BTW, if you look at the README you are going to see that there's a warning about symlinks.
I wonder if you found a solution to safely handling symlinks in your library (like perhaps having an option to skip them)
I'll take a look, i should be able to get this in over the weekend.
Nice, i'll give that plugin a try!
Regarding the symlinks, I'll look into that over the weekend as well, I'll check how obsidian deals with them and how your filesystem interface interacts with the obsidian APIs. Have you encountered any issues with symlinks and just-git in your plugin so far that I could reproduce?
We strongly advise against using symbolic links. By using symbolic links and junctions in your vault, you risk losing or corrupting your data, or crashing Obsidian. Make sure you perform regular back-ups of your vault and settings.
I'm not having any issues with just-git (it's actually working very well), the only reason I mentioned it is because it would be nice to be able to skip symlinks altogether if you want to. IIRC git's default support is limited and since we have a virtual fs, it seems like a cool security feature.
I had fs check for symlinks as a protection on desktop, but obsidian will flag your plugin for "accessing files outside the vault" - it also doesn't work on mobile so I ended up removing it. Unfortunatelly, Obsidian's API doesn't seem to give us more information about the kind of file you are dealing with, so for the time being I just added a link to this in the plugin's README: https://snyk.io/blog/symlinks-are-still-scary/.

Hello!
Awesome, yep feel free to open that PR!
Thats great, I've wanted to try making an Obsidian plugin with just-git as well, but haven't gotten around to it yet, what are you building?

Hi! I appreciate that...
About symlinks, here's Obsidian's general guidance on the topic: https://obsidian.md/help/symlinks
