Fully encrypted, private Texas Hold'em on Solana with multiplayer support and spectator betting.

Quick Start

Play Now (AI Mode)

Play with Friends (Multiplayer)

Local Setup:

cd privatepoker

# Terminal 1: Start WebSocket server
cd server && npm install && npm start

# Terminal 2: Start Next.js frontend
npm install && npm run dev

Open http://localhost:3000 → Both tabs/windows can play each other

Production Multiplayer:

  1. Deploy frontend to Vercel: npx vercel --prod
  2. Deploy server to Render (see server/README.md)
  3. Set NEXT_PUBLIC_WS_SERVER env var in Vercel dashboard

Game Modes

🤖 AI Opponent

  • Single player vs intelligent AI
  • AI uses hand strength evaluation + poker strategy
  • No server required
  • Instant feedback

🤝 Multiplayer (Real Players)

  • 1v1 poker with a friend
  • 5-character room codes
  • Real-time updates
  • Server keeps hands private until showdown
  • Both players' hands revealed at showdown only

👁️ Spectator Betting

  • Friends join as spectators
  • Bet on either player
  • Collect winnings based on dynamic odds
  • Unlimited spectators per game

Architecture

Frontend (Vercel): Next.js 16 + React 19 + Tailwind
Backend (Render): Node.js WebSocket server
State: Zustand (local for AI, synced via WS for multiplayer)
Privacy: Server-authoritative (prevents cheating)

How It Works

Multiplayer Game Flow

1. Player A creates room (generates code like "AB3XY")
   ↓
2. Server creates game room, deals cards
   - Player A hand: [K♠, Q♠]
   - Player B hand: [hidden until broadcast]
   
3. Player B joins with code "AB3XY"
   ↓
4. Server broadcasts state to both players
   - Each sees only their own hand
   - Community cards visible to all
   
5. Player A bets $100
   - Sent to server → server validates → broadcasts to B
   
6. Player B calls
   - Turn passes to A
   
7. After final bets → Flop revealed
   - Action repeats for each street
   
8. River ends, showdown:
   - Server reveals all hands
   - Evaluates best 5-card hand
   - Winner gets pot
   
9. Spectators' bets resolved based on winner

AI Mode (Local)

1. Player creates game with AI
2. UI immediately shows:
   - Player hand: [K♠, Q♠]
   - AI hand: [random cards]
   - Community cards: [3 for flop]
   
3. Player acts (fold/check/call/raise/allin)
   - Zustand state updates locally
   
4. AI evaluates hand strength
   - If strong: raise
   - If weak: fold/check
   - With randomness for bluffing
   
5. Game progresses locally until winner
   - No server, no network

Known Limitations

  • Demo/hackathon version (no real money)
  • Rooms timeout after 1 hour
  • Max 2 players per room (unlimited spectators)
  • No blockchain integration yet
  • Cards not truly encrypted in TEE (planned)

One-Command Deploy

Security

🔒 Current: Server-side game logic (prevents client-side cheating)

🛡️ Planned (MagicBlock Integration):

  • Cards encrypted in TEE
  • Server can evaluate hands without seeing values
  • Cryptographic proof of fair dealing

Testing
