@changazo changazo released this 11 Oct 18:03

The first public release of DisplayShot: region capture for Windows that works on any display setup, with several monitors, different resolutions, scaling (100 %, 125 %, 150 %…) and orientations, always in real pixels.

Get started

  1. Download DisplayShot.exe below. It's a single portable file of 168 KB with nothing to install.
  2. Run it. The screen freezes. Hover a window and click to grab it, or drag any area.
  3. Mark it up, then press Ctrl+C to copy or Ctrl+S to save a PNG to Pictures\Screenshots.

You need Windows 10 or 11. The .NET Framework 4 it uses is already part of Windows.

What's in it

  • Window detection, a magnifier with size and colour readouts, eight resize handles and arrow-key nudging. The handles and arrow keys keep working while you draw.
  • Rectangle, oval, line, arrow, brush and text in 16 colours, plus pixelate in three block sizes. Undo and redo.
  • One-key Save to a default folder, or Save as with PNG, JPEG, BMP, GIF and TIFF. Optionally, saving also copies the image to the clipboard.
  • Background mode: a tray icon and Ctrl+Alt+X to capture instantly. It can start with Windows.
  • The toolbar, magnifier and handles follow each monitor's scaling.

Notes

  • The exe isn't code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may warn the first time you run it. Choose More info → Run anyway, or build it yourself from source with build.cmd.
  • Settings are stored in DisplayShot.ini next to the exe. The only exception is Start with Windows, a per-user Run value in the registry.
