What did you work on this past iteration (2 weeks)?

• I have worked on Authentication part of the app. I used jwt to create a token and store it as cookie on web browser to store the user session.
• I have also worked with the team to set up the CICD pipeline to automate the deployment of our application onto Heroku server.

What were any major issues/challenges you ran into?

• Create and storing the session cookie required implementation of Local Authentication Strategy which took the most of the time.
• During the GitHub Action implementation, we faced issue with the project structure. Deployment was successful, but the server was not running properly due to missing Modules. We needed to execute npm install on both frontend and backend, but the way we have set up the structure and package.json only allowed npm install on the frontend side.

What do you plan to work on for this coming iteration (2 weeks)?

• User tokens are stored in the web browser, but the pages are not rendered properly during refresh of the page. It works fine in local run, but not on production.
• Would like to implement persistent storage for redux, so state are persisted even after the refresh of the page.

For this sprint, I implemented functionality for users to change their profile pictures and created a notification feature to warn the user of their spending. As a team, we worked on deploying our app to Heroku. Some of the challenges I encountered include, parsing and uploading the image file to the database and making sure that the app runs properly when running locally and in the deployed version. For the next and last sprint, I will focus on debugging and polishing our code as well as write clear documentation.

Past week:

• finally completing the workflow for adding items to categories, and having it reflect throughout the dashboard
• bug fixes for updating settings

Challenges:

• deploying to Heroku, lots of things that work locally had to be modified to work once deployed
• difficulties with installing dependencies and using the correct scripts when deploying

Next week:

• fixing bugs with categories and items duplication, timing issues with sending requests and rerendering
• helping with the issues with routing on our deployed app

What I did:

• Researched for an OCR library to parse a receipt in order to grab the product name, quantity, and price using regular expressions.
• Bug fixes regarding the drag-and-drop not being able to drag to and from a category.

Challenges:

• There's a limited amount of reliable OCR libraries available. The ones that are available are not able to determine the location of items' names, quantities, and prices. We cannot solely rely on regular expressions to grab information on any receipt.
• Deploying using the right file structure and scripts

What's next:

• Sanitizing our codebase
• When adding an item into a category, we want the droppable window to increase its height dynamically
