CollabVM Server 1.2.11 "SE SP1"

28 Feb 09:50

Choose a tag to compare

This is the one true final release of what all of you know as CollabVM 1.2.x. And I know that's been said once before, but not this time.
This is really it.

It is nicknamed "SE SP1" mostly to continue an injoke..

CollabVM 1.2.11 will be supported for a short while after CollabVM 3.0 releases.

There's not much in the way of new features. However, that is not to say this is an empty handed final release. A lot of behind the scenes action was refactored, and in some cases, completely replaced!

This version of the CollabVM Server modernizes a lot of the code (moving to C++17, among other things), and completely removes the dependency on the Websocket++ library.
Instead, this version of the CollabVM Server uses the Boost.Beast library for WebSocket communication.

One note of caution is to build Boost 1.75 yourself if your distro doesn't ship new Boost.Beast versions (I'm looking at you, Ubuntu and Debian).

Compiled binaries will soon be attached here along with their compile date, however, you can compile now to get the experience early.

Version legend:

  • alpine-amd64 - For Alpine Linux-based distros, 64-bit
  • debian-amd64 - For Debian-based distros (including Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pop! OS, etc), 64-bit
  • netbsd-amd64 - For NetBSD and above, 64-bit
  • windows-amd64 - For Windows 7 and above, 64-bit

Compiled 1/25/2021

This is a stable build for CollabVM Server v1.2.10, which has been nicknamed "CollabVM Server Plus!". This adds many, many features to CollabVM Server - most of which are on the moderation side, as well as general performance enhancements, bug fixes and some security vulnerabilities were also fixed. The list of changes are as follows:

  • Added a "moderator" rank, which can be configured to have special permissions. Moderators are similar to Admins except they can't use the admin panel and their permissions can be configured in the admin panel.

  • Added many admin features, including: the ability to end turns, clear the turn queue, end the current turn, forcibly cancel/pass vote resets, kick, ban, and copy IP, as well as forcibly changing usernames.

  • Added username blacklists.

  • Fixed a few vulnerabilities that allowed you to DoS the server.

  • Fixed directory traverse.

Thanks to 6969, DarkOK, MDMCK10, modeco80, sorry, yellows111, for their work on this huge release. We hope you enjoy it.

This release is unsupported. Issues targeting it will be closed.

Compiled 2/18/2020

This is the stable build for collab-vm-server version 1.2.9.

Here are some changes in this release:

  • A fix for a script known as "kit" has been added. There may be future scripts written to bypass this, for now it should be blocked. (Thanks to 6-9-6-9!)
  • JPEG support has been optionally added. If you want to use a JPEG-enabled version of the server, select the file labelled "jpeg". (Thanks to modeco80!)
  • Adds red usernames for administrators. (Thanks to modeco80!)
  • Fixed having to edit the admin panel's admin.min.js (Thanks to r3muxd!)
  • Fix bots being able to crash the server via SIGPIPE. (Thanks to modeco80!)

All other versions of CollabVM Server 1.x have now ended support. This will be the only supported version of CollabVM Server 1.x from now on. This project will be completely discontinued on February 18, 2021 and no future updates or technical support will be given after that date.

Tested:

  • Debian 10
  • FreeBSD 12
  • Ubuntu 18.04
  • Windows 10 Subsystem for Linux
  • Windows 10

Also should work on:

As always, if you receive any errors, check out https://computernewb.com/wiki/CollabVM_Server_1.x/Problems for common issues and solutions.

Compiled 12/29/2016

This is the stable build for collab-vm-server version 1.2.6. It contains bug fixes, as well as fixing the Admin Panel's CSS and making it look cleaner/nicer. You can download the latest version below. The changes in this release are:

Important Notice: There is a bug that was recently discovered where the admin panel password does not save. So, when you shut down the server, the admin panel password will be reset to the default password. This bug is currently being investigated and will be fixed next release. For now, please use Sqlite 3 Browser or a similar tool to change it manually. We apologize for the inconvenience.

If you're getting an error that says "error while loading shared libraries: libuuid.so.16: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory", type this command in:

sudo wget http://computernewb.com/libuuid.so.16 -O /usr/lib/libuuid.so.16

then run the server again.
