in principle we could support lower python versions, down to 3.10 (which is the minimum that prettyerr supports. It would require rewriting any use of the new generic syntax like class RuleUnion[T]: ..., etc... Unclear if the dsl.pyi type definitions would work as TypeAlias instead. Would also have to investigate if prettyerr could go lower than 3.10, but I think there was some concrete reasoning why it couldn't easily go lower.
