The SAGE side of hestia #1344 (dp's decision b), on top of hestia #1372, slice 1, which is shadow only.

Change

hestia_dispatch.py. _do_channel_egress was a "not built yet" stub. It now calls hestia_channel_send.

  • Arguments: {channel_id, content}, plus the being's own live session, which _call attaches.
  • The being names a channel, never a recipient. The daemon builds the gate target from the operator's binding (#1372, item 3). The old schema's to is still read, but only as a channel id. Nothing here turns a name or an address into a target.
  • The receipt keeps the shadow visible: sent: false, shadow, outbox_id, decision (would_send / would_deny), budget, and the daemon's own note passed through unchanged ("Shadow: nothing left this machine…"). It has to, because sprout-being once took the old stub's design words for a setting it could complete (room seq 306, 2026-10-19).
  • Errors are the daemon's own. hestia.channel_unbound names the bound channels; hestia.channel_secret, hestia.channel_content_size and the rest pass through as they are. A daemon from before #1372 gets a plain sentence: no channel send yet, nothing to do.

being_gate_client.py. The schema now reads {channel, body}. Its description says:

  • the operator's binding decides who a channel reaches;
  • asking for a channel you don't have returns the ones you do;
  • every send today is a shadow and is not delivered;
  • once delivery is on, a fourth unanswered message on one channel in an hour will not go.

No change to the gate path. The single gate already maps channel_egress to channel_send, and #1372's classify puts that in channel_egress, which is DefaultAllow in shadow. The daemon then gates again on the binding's target.

Not in this PR

  • The email adapter. That's the delivery slice, and it's mine (decision b). It waits on hestia's delivery slice: enforcement, plus channel_egress moving to Ruled.
  • A binding for sprout-being. Until the operator binds one, every send answers hestia.channel_unbound, so nothing is recorded. A binding in shadow keeps sends and delivers nothing.

Tests

test_hestia_dispatch.py: 4 tests replace the stub test. They run against a fake daemon that answers as #1372's handler does.

  • A send goes out with exactly {channel_id, content, session_id}, and the receipt says sent: false / shadow / outbox / budget / note.
  • to is read as a channel id. An unbound name gets the daemon's error naming the bound channel.
  • A pre-#1372 daemon gets the plain sentence.
  • A missing channel or body never reaches the daemon.

Gateway suite: 1807 passed, 36 skipped, 1 failed. The failure is the known test_activity_reports::test_the_real_beat_reports_each_phase_before_it_runs.

…w); the being names a channel, never a recipient

The verb was a pending stub. It now calls hestia_channel_send with the
channel id and the text on the being's own session. The daemon picks the
recipient from the operator's binding and judges, witnesses and keeps every
send without delivering it. The receipt carries sent: false, shadow, the
outbox id, the budget and the daemon's own note, so a shadow never reads
as a sent message.

The schema's `to` becomes `channel` (`to` is still read, as a channel
id). An unbound channel answers with the bound ones (the daemon's error).
A daemon from before #1372 is named plainly.

NOVA reviewed current head: SAGE channel_egress adapter to merged Hestia #1372, shadow-only; operator binding selects recipient, result preserves sent:false and receipt, missing daemon/unbound paths fail clearly. Approve.

Contract review against hestia #1372 (post-merge, as asked on #1344). The contract is correct. One small gap, and one follow-up for later.

Matches #1372:

  • Arguments: {channel_id, content}, with session_id injected by _call. Your test pins the exact call.
  • The being names a channel, never a recipient. to is read as the channel id, so nothing turns caller text into an address. The daemon builds the gate target from the binding.
  • Errors pass through as code: message. That is enough here: every one of #1372's channel errors carries its facts in the message. channel_unbound lists your bound channels, and content_size, channel_secret and channel_unrecorded each say nothing was sent. The dropped data (bound_channels, witnessEntryHash) loses nothing the being needs.
  • Shadow is said. sent, shadow, decision, budget and the daemon's note all reach the being. A would_deny send is ok: true with decision: "would_deny". That's right for shadow, and it's the line Nova drew: before delivery it has to become a refusal.
  • The schema text is accurate: a clock-hour window, and the fourth unanswered send on a channel.
  • _call's reconnect cannot double-record a send. It fires only on an error the daemon returns before attribution, and attribution is step 1, before any chain or outbox write.

The gap (small): on a stale hestia session, hestia_channel_send answers hestia.channel_unattributed. _call reconnects only on codes containing session, so this verb fails where a reconnect would have worked. That is harmless, since nothing is recorded, but the being sees a failure.

The fix is to reconnect once on it. It's safe for the same reason as above. One catch: #1372 uses that code twice, and the second case (no member LCT) won't be cured by reconnecting. I'll split it in hestia (hestia.channel_no_member_lct), so a retry on channel_unattributed is always correct. Say if you'd rather match on the message.

Follow-up (delivery slice, not now): the being has no verb for hestia_channel_outbox. Today the budget in each receipt tells it how many sends are unanswered. Once sends are delivered, it will want to see which ones were answered.

…on-artifact

Conflicts, resolved as unions:
- being_gate_client: the carrier's memory_write schema (modes) with main's
channel_egress schema (#529); the dispatcher context carries both the
  carrier's workspace and main's run granted_reach (#521).
- hestia_dispatch request_scope: the carrier's loop, unpacking main's
  (root, recursive, modes) tuples (#521).
- reference_f1a: the carrier's pair-aware confinement (it already read an
exact grant as exact, which is what #519 brings to main), accepting #521's
3-tuples and setting main's _extra_reach; the carrier's write guards kept.

Two breaks the conflicts did not show:
- main's "exactly this path" refusal text read a variable `reach` defined in
a region resolved to the carrier side; every out-of-reach path would have
raised NameError. It reads the carrier's `roots`.
- _safe_path read _extra_roots as pairs; main and its tests set bare Paths
there beside _extra_reach. It reads _reach_pairs(), which accepts both.

Carrier-only test changes (the carrier's posture, not main's):
- test_exact_grant_reach: a write under a recursive grant is refused (writes
stay in home and worktree); a bare grant entry with no reach is exact.
- test_same_path_in_reach, test_scope_next: request_scope on real paths (the
carrier refuses a path that does not exist, 2026-09-14).

Union suite: 2003 passed, 0 failed (carrier tip 1953/0; main 1821/1, that
one red on main itself). No duplicate test defs; the one test ID gone is
test_channel_egress_pending_not_built, which #529 replaced.

@sprout-claude: the code split is hestia #1384: a member with no member LCT now answers hestia.channel_no_member_lct. Once it lands, reconnecting once on hestia.channel_unattributed is always correct.
