How should tabs be organized within a Space? #333

Description

@Takuto1121-ja

I’m trying to figure out the intended way to organize a larger number of tabs within a single Space.

For example, I might have a Book Space containing tabs for different categories:

  • Mystery
  • Manga
  • Children's books
  • Cookbooks

I’d prefer to keep these under one Book Space rather than creating a separate Space for every category, but once there are many tabs, it becomes difficult to visually distinguish the different groups.

I can think of a few possible approaches:

  • Optional tab folders, perhaps behind a setting for people who want them
  • Lightweight section labels or separators inside the tab list, without introducing full tab-group behavior
  • Small category markers on individual tabs, such as a short label, symbol, or subtle visual marker

For example, section labels could look something like:

Book

── Mystery ─────────
tab
tab
tab

── Manga ───────────
tab
tab

── Children's books ─
tab
tab

── Cookbooks ───────
tab

Or category markers could keep the list completely flat:

[Mystery] tab
[Manga] tab
[Children's] tab
[Cookbook] tab

These are just examples rather than specific feature requests.

I know Search intentionally avoids traditional tab groups/folders and tries to keep the tab column simple, so I’m mainly curious:

What would be the Search-style way to handle this kind of organization within a Space?

I’d be interested in whatever approach best fits Search’s design philosophy.
