A data store service that leads several node groups ran one EloqStore per node group's data store shard, each with its own buffer pool, fd budget and local cache quota, so the process's memory could not be budgeted as one. One store now hosts every data store shard the process serves, attaching and detaching each on its own while the others keep serving. - StartInstance(branch) starts the store with no shard; AttachShard(id, term) and DetachShard(id) host and drop one. Start(branch, term, id) is StartInstance plus AttachShard, for embedders that host one shard. - The store keeps a table of hosted shards (state and term), read on every request. A request names its shard (KvRequest::SetDsShard; one naming none works for the shard Start attached) and is admitted only while the shard is attached; an expired shard fails it with ExpiredTerm. - Terms are per partition: AsyncIoManager::ProcessTerm(tbl_id) returns the term of the data store shard the partition is bound to, where the per-manager process term and partition group id used to be. The worker shard binds a request's partition to its shard before running it, so background work on the partition finds the term too. - AttachShard raises the shard's term file, CURRENT_TERM_<branch>_<id>, with a compare-and-swap that CloudStorageService runs on its first thread (UpsertTermFile); ExpiredTerm fails the attach. A partition takes over lazily on its first open, and a newer manifest term marks the whole shard Expired. - DetachShard sends a DetachShardRequest to every worker shard, where a DetachShardTask fails the requests queued for the shard's partitions, waits until no task runs on them, then drops their root metas, open files, local manifests and bindings. Sealed data files stay cached. - partition_filter takes the shard id; the global archive, reopen and create-branch sweeps, the archive cron and prewarm run per shard. - Only cloud mode hosts more than one shard: data on a node's own disk has one owner. - Tests: tests/ds_shards.cpp (two shards in their own terms, one expired shard, the detach drain, local mode's single shard). …ookup table The request already names its data store shard, so the worker shard never has to find a partition's shard: when a task starts it copies the id and reads the shard's term from the table once (KvTask::ds_shard_id_, term_), and every switch to a task publishes both as thread-locals (thd_ds_shard_id, thd_term; Shard::SwitchToTask). AsyncIoManager::ProcessTerm() keeps its original signature and returns the thread's term. The per-partition binding table (BindPartition, DsShardOf, PartitionsOf, ForgetPartition), ProcessTerm(tbl_id) and Shard::ResolveDsShard are gone. The internal requests a task queues for its partition (compaction, file GC, local GC, TTL cleaning, the reopen driver behind parked waiters) are stamped with the task's shard, so they run in the same term and are gated and counted like external requests. A detach finds the partitions to evict from the root metas and the open-file tables, which record the shard of the task that created them. The fd syncs that an eviction runs from another shard's task name a manifest by the fd's own term, as data files always were. A new test detaches and re-attaches a shard five times under a write storm that keeps compactions and file GC running, and checks that every file in the cloud carries one of the shard's terms. - AttachShard and DetachShard no longer hold ds_shard_mux_ across their waits. A caller may be a bthread whose pthread runs a worker shard in module builds, and a second caller blocking that pthread on the mutex would stall the very shard the detach waits for. The mutex now covers the table transitions only; an attach that finds the store stopped after its wait gives the slot up. - SendRequest no longer completes an expired shard's request inside the call: the request goes to its worker shard, which fails it with ExpiredTerm (Shard::AdmitRequest). The synchronous completion ran the caller's callback inside ExecAsyn, which the fan-out schedulers do not expect (one level of recursion per partition). - Shard::FailPendingRequestsOf matches the delayed reopen drivers by table, not through their request pointer: a delayed entry can outlive its driver, which the loop just before may have destroyed with its state. - EvictDsShard reports a failed directory status instead of taking it for a missing directory. - Tests: the drain test submits reads until the gate refuses one instead of a fixed count, and both tests with a worker thread join it on every exit path. DetachShardlogs worker eviction errors, then marks the slotDetachedand returnsKvError::NoError. …hard archives Term file compare-and-swap: - AttachShard sends an AttachShardRequest to worker shard id % num_threads. The AttachShardTask runs CloudStoreMgr::UpsertTermFile through that worker's object store: read the file and its ETag, then a conditional upload (If-Match, or If-None-Match: * when missing), reading again on 409/412 (or 404 on If-Match), up to 10 attempts. No thread blocks on HTTP. - Removes CloudStorageService::UpsertTermFile, its first-thread job queue and the blocking-curl ObjectStore/AsyncHttpManager::BootstrapUpsertTermFile. Running shard and term: - The running task's data store shard and term live on the worker shard (Shard::running_ds_shard_id_, running_term_), set by SwitchToTask and cleared by LeaveTask, read through ThdDsShard() and ThdTerm(). Detach by partition filter: - Root meta entries and open-file tables no longer record a shard. EvictDsShard collects every partition with a root meta or an open file on the worker and drops those KvOptions::partition_filter gives the detaching shard. AttachShard refuses a second shard without a filter. - DropTable keeps only the partitions of the shard it works for, as the other store-level sweeps do. Per-shard archive schedule: - ArchiveCrond keeps one schedule per attached shard: AttachShard starts it, first due one interval later; DetachShard ends it before draining. One thread submits each due shard's GlobalArchiveRequest asynchronously and sets the next due time one interval after it completes, so shards no longer wait on one another. An Expired or Detaching shard's turn is put off one interval. - The module-build wait no longer busy-sleeps under the mutex, and Stop yields with bthread_usleep until the thread has exited before joining, so a caller on a brpc worker cannot block the shard the thread waits on. Smaller: - Upload requests send an empty Content-Type, so curl adds no unsigned form content type that some S3 front ends reject. - Prewarm jobs carry std::optional<TableIdent> for "whole shard". - DetachShard keeps its requests in a fixed-size vector. - Doc comments: the AttachShard thread rule, ds_shard_mux_, PendingWriteQueue::running_, the internal request stamping. - Docs 02, 03, 06, 07, 08, 10 updated. Tests: hosting a second shard needs the filter; each shard is archived on its own schedule across detach and re-attach; DropTable drops only its shard's partitions. Add #include <unordered_set> for unordered_set<> [build/include_what_you_use] [4]
Problem
A data store service that leads several node groups (for example a node that takes over another node group's data store shard as a voter) ran one EloqStore per data store shard. Each instance had its own buffer pool, fd budget and local cache quota, so the process's memory could not be budgeted as one, and the brpc that data substrate main pins gives the EloqStore module one registry slot, so a second instance aborted the process (the alternative in #501, several instances under one shared module, is dropped for the same budgeting reason).
Change
One store hosts every data store shard the process serves. Each shard is attached and detached on its own while the others keep serving; only cloud mode hosts more than one, since data on a node's own disk has one owner, and hosting more than one needs
KvOptions::partition_filter.StartInstance(branch)starts the store with no shard;AttachShard(id, term)andDetachShard(id)host and drop one.Start(branch, term, id)isStartInstanceplusAttachShard, so embedders that host one shard are unchanged (Term()andPartitionGroupId()report that shard).DsShardIdis the data store shard id's name now;PartitonGroupIdstays as an alias.AttachShard,DetachShardandStopchange it underds_shard_mux_, never held across their waits. A request names its shard (KvRequest::SetDsShard; one naming none works for the shardStartattached) and is admitted while the shard is attached or expired; any other state refuses it withNotRunning. An expired shard's request goes on to its worker shard, which fails it withExpiredTerm. The worker shard checks again when it dequeues the request, so a detach that began in between still refuses it.Shard::StartTaskcopies the id and reads the shard's term from the table once (KvTask::ds_shard_id_,KvTask::term_). Every switch to a task (Shard::SwitchToTask) records both on the worker shard beside the running task (Shard::running_ds_shard_id_,running_term_, read throughThdDsShard()/ThdTerm()likeThdTask()), andAsyncIoManager::ProcessTerm()keeps its signature and returns that term: no lookup by partition anywhere, and the per-manager process term and partition group id are gone. The internal requests a task queues for its partition (compaction, file GC, local GC, TTL cleaning, the reopen driver behind parked waiters) are stamped with the task's shard, so they run in the same term and are gated and counted like external requests. An fd eviction that syncs another shard's dirty manifest names it by the fd's own term, as data files always were.CURRENT_TERM_<branch>_<id>, is raised with a compare-and-swap run as an ordinary task:AttachShardsends anAttachShardRequestto worker shardid % num_threadsand waits with a bthread-aware wait. TheAttachShardTaskrunsCloudStoreMgr::UpsertTermFilethrough that worker's object store: read the file and its ETag, then a conditional upload (If-Match, orIf-None-Match: *when missing), reading again when a concurrent writer wins, up to 10 attempts. No thread blocks on HTTP; the blocking-curlBootstrapUpsertTermFileis removed.ExpiredTermfails the attach. A partition takes over lazily on its first open, as before, and a manifest of a newer term marks the whole shard Expired.AttachShardmust not be called from a brpc worker outside a bthread (a module hook): the wait would block the worker that may be running the swap.DetachShardsends aDetachShardRequestto every worker shard and waits for all of them. On each worker aDetachShardTaskfails the requests queued for the shard's partitions (pending writes, parked reopen waiters, delayed reopen drivers), blocks until no task runs on them (the task that brings the count to 0 resumes it), then drops their root metas and cached pages, closes their files and drops their local manifests. Its partitions are those with a root meta or an open file on the worker thatpartition_filtergives the detaching shard, so the embedder detaches a shard before reassigning its partitions. The cached copies of data files stay: a later term starts a new file, so no file of an older term changes.partition_filter(ds_shard_id, tbl_id)takes the shard; the global archive, reopen and create-branch requests andDropTablehand their shard to the per-partition requests they fan out and keep only the partitions the filter gives it; prewarm runs per shard when it is attached.ArchiveCrondkeeps one schedule per attached shard:AttachShardstarts it, first due one interval later, andDetachShardends it before draining, so a shard attached again at a newer term starts afresh. One thread submits each due shard'sGlobalArchiveRequestasynchronously and sets the next due time one interval after it completes, so a slow shard delays no other. In module builds its wait no longer busy-sleeps, andStopyields until the thread exits before joining.Content-Type, so curl adds no unsigned form content type that some S3 front ends (s3proxy) reject.Testing
tests/ds_shards.cpp): a shard detached and re-attached five times under a write storm that keeps compactions and file GC running, with every cloud file checked to carry one of the shard's terms; two shards attached in their own terms (each with its own term file and manifest name, detach refusing one shard's requests while the other serves, re-attach at a newer term promoting the manifest), and a second shard refused without a partition filter; an expired term failing one shard only, with the other still served and the shard taken back at a higher term; a detach that drains in-flight reads (every one completes, served or refused, none hangs); a detach that waits for the shard's background work; each shard archived on its own schedule in its own term, with only the other shard archived after a detach and a fresh schedule after re-attach;DropTabledropping only its shard's partition; local mode refusing a second shard.ctest --test-dir build/tests/on the head, as CI runs it (Debug, RustFS, memlock unlimited, 32 cores): all 328 tests pass (597 s).ELOQ_MODULE_ENABLED), which this repository's CI does not build either; the library builds in a module-mode tree, and the module paths are exercised once the data substrate adopts this API.Follow-up

OpenDataStore/CloseDataStoreattaching and detaching, requests stamped with their shard, the filter answering from the bucket map) lands after this is pinned.Checklist
