The ARM64 CI run completed 49 of 50 cases in 595.557 seconds before the aggregate 600-second timeout killed the last case. The successful main baseline already took 579.81 seconds for this matrix. Give the complete write/recovery matrix a 900-second budget while preserving fixture-level deadlines. All 50 cases and the 16 CI runner/bundle checks pass locally.

and PendingWrite::Send with send deadlines, and bound PendingWrite’s blocking
connect so stalled servers cannot hold fixture execution indefinitely. If these
operations are not bounded, revise the CMakeLists.txt comment so it no longer
claims all fixture waits remain bounded.

Context
Batched storage reads can exceed backend submission capacity. Adopt the Bycorf changes in eloqdata/bycorf#16 so accepted work waits for capacity and completes on its owner worker.
Behavior before and after
SPDK's shared 4096-object callback pool could reject requests when one qpair accumulated a backlog. The updated runtime removes that pool, keeps a pending FIFO per qpair, and directly uses each operation's completion tag. io_uring keeps prepared SQEs in its own pending FIFO when ring space is exhausted.
The existing batch barrier continues to count queued operations until their final completion; only the last accepted I/O wakes the awaiting coroutine.
Implementation
Design decisions and alternatives
Keep submission-capacity management within worker-owned backends. SPDK's dynamic pending queues preserve per-qpair FIFO order without a fixed worker-wide request limit.
Documentation and comments
The accompanying Bycorf change updates backend architecture, ownership comments, and the test guide. Lavik's batch-await comment is synchronized with the runtime contract; its storage architecture remains accurate.
Test plan
All commands below passed from the Lavik checkout:
The compact-collection matrix passed all 50 cases in 275.83 seconds on local ARM64 with GCC 13 Debug. All 16 CI-runner and bundle regression tests passed.
The standalone Bycorf build uses RelWithDebInfo and BYCORF_KERNEL_BYPASS=ON. Its SPDK checks use device stubs and cover 8193-request bursts, independent qpairs, FIFO, callback reuse/self-destruction, and shutdown. Pre-commit formatting and git diff --check also passed.
The latest runtime pin passed the six Bycorf kernel/runtime checks and Lavik multikey integration after rebuilding Lavik. The bypass build passed its three listed checks; the io_uring test now exercises mixed send/sendmsg through direct and queued admission. ARM64 GCC 13.3 Release disassembly, with and without LTO, confirms removal of the temporary 64-byte SQE and copy from Send/SendMsg normal paths. The LTO check uses a small disassembly-only probe. End-to-end QPS needs a same-configuration rerun.
Risk assessment
The completion-object layout changes, so dependents must rebuild; common storage awaitables grow by 8 bytes on the tested AArch64 layout. Each unfinished storage operation needs a distinct completion tag, which existing Lavik callers already provide. Pending queues are limited by available memory. No real-device SPDK throughput or tail-latency benchmark was run.
Rollback plan
Restore the previous Bycorf gitlink and batch-await comment, then rebuild Lavik.
Reviewer guide
The runtime dependency in eloqdata/bycorf#16 is merged. This PR pins its main-branch merge commit 68095c7b330c3c14efc43239b93feff22512f2e8; its source tree is identical to the tested fd4c86eb95a00be241dbeba9e928a6dc22de079f revision. Review that runtime implementation, then the submodule update, src/storage/engine/read.cpp comment, and aggregate test timeout here.
Follow-up work
Measure sustained-backlog throughput and tail latency on SPDK hardware.
