First draft of CONTRIBUTING.md, kept small-library scale: only what a contributor cannot discover from the code, each claim verified against the repo.

Sections

  • Getting started — setup + script table; notes there are no runtime deps
  • Quality gates — the exact CI command chain, plus the two invisible rules: 100% coverage cap (with the two documented exclusions) and the 1:1 test-mirroring convention
  • Code standards — full TSDoc on every export (with generate-text.ts as the named exemplar), the zero-runtime-dependency architectural rule, the strict-TS trio (noUncheckedIndexedAccess, exactOptionalPropertyTypes, verbatimModuleSyntax), ESM/named-exports/barrel conventions
  • Changesets — the when-yes/when-no policy table in prose, bump-type choices (including the 0.x breaking=minor rule), and what the automation does afterwards
  • Pull requests — branch/squash/commit-prefix conventions, incl. the CI-only-PRs-are-a-green-no-op note
  • Releases — pointer; never manual

Deliberately excluded: code of conduct, CLA, issue templates, generic advice — boilerplate that would rot.

No changeset attached (docs-only PR — per the guide's own policy 😉).

Documents the conventions a contributor cannot discover from the code:
the exact CI gate list, the 100% coverage rule and test mirroring, the
TSDoc/zero-dependency/strict-TS standards, when a changeset is needed
(and when it is not), the PR flow, and the automatic release cycle.
