Codex Pets are tiny animated desktop companions for Codex users and AI-assisted coding workflows.
A Codex Pet is usually packaged as a small downloadable bundle with a manifest and a spritesheet. The manifest describes the pet, and the spritesheet provides animation frames for states such as idle, waiting, waving, review, or failed.
The idea is simple: give your coding workspace a lightweight visual companion that can sit alongside long-running Codex workflows, make waiting states feel less empty, and make AI-assisted development more personal and shareable. If traditional desktop pets make an operating system feel more alive, Codex Pets bring that same small companion pattern into AI coding sessions and agent waiting states.
Codex Pets is an independent community concept and utility. It is not an official OpenAI product.
