The umbrella firecrawl skill only knew the CLI. This folder also syncs into the Claude plugin, where users in chat and Cowork have the Firecrawl MCP connector and no shell, so the skill pointed them at a CLI they can't run.

This adds a short section: when firecrawl_* MCP tools are connected, use them for search, scrape, developer, paper and provider tasks; for anything the connection doesn't expose (map, crawl, interact, monitor, download, parse), use the CLI if there is a shell. The table lists only the eight tools on the search endpoint the Claude connector uses, so it holds for the narrowest connection. The description now mentions MCP so the skill still triggers in those sessions.

No change for CLI or Cursor users: with no MCP tools connected, the rest of the skill applies as before.

Short-term fix while the Claude plugin listing moves to Anthropic's developer portal; after that the Claude plugin gets its own MCP package from firecrawl-mcp-server/plugins/claude and stops syncing from here.

Summary by cubic

The firecrawl skill previously only knew the CLI, so sessions with the Firecrawl MCP connector (Claude plugin chat/Cowork, which have no shell) were told to install and run a CLI they can't reach. The skill now uses Firecrawl MCP tools when connected and falls back to the CLI otherwise, so CLI and Cursor users see no change.

  • When firecrawl_* MCP tools are available, use them for search, scrape, developer, paper and provider tasks instead of the CLI.
  • For needs the connected server doesn't expose (map, crawl, interact, monitor, download, parse), use the CLI if a shell exists; otherwise state the connection doesn't support it.
  • The skill description now mentions MCP so it still triggers in MCP-only sessions.
  • Short-term fix while the Claude plugin listing moves to Anthropic's developer portal, after which the plugin stops syncing from this folder.

Written for commit 10f8b0a. Summary will update on new commits.

Review in cubic

The umbrella skill only knew the CLI, so a session with the Firecrawl
MCP connector (Claude plugin users in chat and Cowork, where there is no
shell) was told to install and run a CLI it cannot reach. The skill now
routes search, scrape, developer, paper and provider tasks to the MCP
tools when they are present and falls back to the CLI otherwise, so CLI
and Cursor users see no change.
