Activity Summary — review still in progress
Review discovery paginated every current thread, review and conversation connection. The changed runtime/provider/schema/runner logic and tests have been read; surrounding production-path tracing, remaining generated-artifact checks and the complete audit are still pending. This is not an exhaustive clean verdict. Native production/provider/curated integration lint and focused regressions passed on a22f923; the subsequent change is header-only. The local full gate and isolated host-contract suite are not claimed green. Reader received the a22f923 validation packet with intact receipt Merge gate: locked. Finish audit and validation, obtain current-head independent review and successful required CI before merging. |

Activity Summary — E02 review reconciliationCurrent head:
The public pinned-compiler build with the corrected lowerer reproduces the retained executable-package and verification-report bytes exactly. Provider package corroboration passes 17 tests; corpus passes 4. Isolated conformance/helper/host/package/resource suites pass 5/6/23/16/1, with three explicitly ignored child entrypoints exercised by parent witnesses. The integrated log initially retained one stale raw-manifest fixture failure; the subsequent focused corpus rerun is GREEN. These are not claims of a green entire local gate. Source audit traced both independent derivations and complete expected-package comparison, exact-byte package admission, direct/scheduler invocation admission through the common key-binding validator, and WAL preparation reconstruction through repeated action admission. No PR merge commits exist. Generated distribution identities and byte copies were checked by promotion/generation checks and host/package execution. Current-main integration is a CI/merge gate, not an inference from local branch checks. The original strict local Wasm clippy still reports Merge gate: locked. No current-head agy APPROVE exists; the last attempt exhausted quota. CodeRabbit has reconciled its comments but has not supplied an approving current-head review. Full required local validation and the remaining live CI jobs must be accounted for before merge. No quota message or resolved thread is treated as approval. Reader delivery |
main gained projected compare-and-set while this branch added bounded projection keys. Both add one optional field to the same application result projection, so the merge keeps both in the lowerer, the verifier, the runtime decoder and the artifact schema. Source resolutions: - The projection carries application_input_key_bound and application_input_expected_value_digest_path. Decode and encode accept either, both, or neither. - Configuration validation keeps this branch's v1/v2 selector check and main's check that the configuration names the intent's program. - The bounded-key unit test passes the invocation kind that main added to the input binding check. Git reported no conflict there; compilation did. Regenerated, not hand-merged: - Both Wasm components, built twice on the designated x86_64 Linux builder. The two builds are byte-identical and were installed by the promote command. lowerer 30d6d8a463877d903a7e52164cd38dc121ff3615bf8e8102b060d776d2a30f7c verifier f2c72cd0204287f0acc476308ef09d0b56da380f80ae74ef10192d8718aa07f0 - The artifact corpus, the provider package and the packaged asset copies. The schema differs from main only by the key-bound entry and the v2 configuration version. - Every pinned schema, component, package and manifest digest, and the component sizes quoted in the READMEs. The compiler-produced CAS and key-bound fixtures were rebuilt with the pinned Edict compiler against the new package. Their retained bytes reproduce exactly, so they are unchanged. Validation (guarded container worker)
- Format, SPDX, determinism ban, four documentation checks: pass.
- All three generators report current in
--checkmode; both components passaudit. - Lowerer and verifier: 10 test binaries pass, including the new refusal test.
echo-wesley-gen: 25 test binaries pass. warp-core: 728 unit tests (default features) and 758 (runtime features) pass; all integration tests pass in both configurations.- Clippy on library targets with
-D warnings -D missing_docs: clean. Rustdoc with-D warnings: clean.
Not from this PR
Clippy on test targets reports findings in files that are identical to main (xtask/tests/run_edict_operation.rs has a function that looks like a test without #[test]; xtask/src/main.rs; crates/warp-core/tests/provenance_retention_codec_tests.rs; a test in echo_operation.rs that came from main). CI lints library targets only, so these do not gate. They are left for a separate change.
The merge with main kept main's program-kind match and dropped this branch's "create only" clause from validate_configuration. A v2 configuration with the compare-and-set program kind then lowered and verified, although both parents refused it: the branch allowed v2 for the create operation only, and main did not know v2. The artifact schema also pins the compare-and-set configuration to v1. Both providers now refuse the v2 selector unless the program is the create operation. A new test lowers a v2 create configuration, changes only the program kind, and requires the lowerer and the verifier to refuse it. The test failed before this change because the lowerer accepted the input. The components change with their source, so they were rebuilt twice on the designated builder, compared, and promoted: lowerer 513b1efcf9d4c340180fbb66d01633bb05711f58620860f78e26412c54b538fc verifier 7206b0b9c97d89adf769552e7a400c1ba8a049d02756a5a94534328fbde21696 The package, the packaged asset copies and the pinned component, release and manifest digests follow. The schema and the compiler-produced fixtures are unchanged. Found by independent review of the merge resolution. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Plain-English Walkthrough
TL;DR
A projected create operation can now opt into compiler-declared Unicode key limits. Configuration v2 makes the lowerer and separate verifier derive the limit from Core; the runtime checks retained canonical input before accepting the invocation. Legacy v1 configurations retain their existing contract. [claim:key-contract, confidence:0.99]
Walkthrough
Previously this create-operation profile did not carry the authored key maximum into runtime admission. The new selector stays in the existing v1 configuration artifact domain while selecting v2 semantics. Each provider independently resolves the selected intent's input record and key field, including imported records and inline String types. It derives a scalar limit and a separate UTF-8 byte ceiling. The verifier reconstructs the expected package, so stripping or increasing the emitted limit breaks verification. [claim:provider-relation, confidence:0.99]
The following flow shows where the declared type becomes an invocation check.
Caption: Declared key limits reach runtime admission
A nonempty key must fit both limits. Unicode scalars are counted separately from UTF-8 bytes; no normalization or NFC validation is added. A 64-scalar bound therefore permits 64 four-byte scalars but refuses 65 scalars. Invalid UTF-8, missing input, and substituted key/replacement bytes have explicit rejection witnesses. [claim:runtime-boundary, confidence:1.00]
Checked component binaries and generated package/schema copies are updated together. A retained public application build uses the pinned Edict compiler
2405a550e93e1e97fff640caa44bbd0f65ffff3c; its exact output is reproduced and executed through fresh-host and WAL recovery. This is a fresh application build with a retained compiler binary, not a new compiler build. The fixture README records input provenance, compiler/component hashes and the reproduction command. [claim:public-build, confidence:0.99]Compatibility and scope
Version 1 remains explicitly legacy. Older providers reject the v2 selector instead of silently advertising this bounded contract. The v1 digest domain is intentionally unchanged. Keep adoption, projected compare-and-set, general input schema validation and caller authentication are outside this change. [claim:compatibility, confidence:0.99]
Documentation impact: the current architecture owner is
docs/architecture/application-contract-hosting.md; CHANGELOG and the compiler-produced fixture reference were updated. The pre-PR accuracy search covered README, GUIDE, the documentation entrance, architecture, specifications, invariants and topics. No dependency was added.Validation and remaining gates
All executed builds/tests below ran in the existing guarded Docker worker with the shared project limits (20 GiB build, 4 GiB runtime data, 128 MiB logs), serialized with the provider builder. Latest measured aggregate usage was approximately 13.31 GiB build, 3.97 GiB data and 23.42 MiB logs; these are historical run measurements, not quotas implied by named volumes.
Observed RED witnesses before their production fixes:

wit_bindgen::generate!expansions in both providers (same_length_and_capacity). The additional broad native--all-targetsrun also fails on unchanged baseline test lints. The full local gate is not claimed green. The isolated host-contract suites subsequently passed after the schema-identity correction described below. Code Lawyer found and repaired the generated-helper/schema identity defect; current-head independent agy review and required CI/reviewer gates remain pending. The last agy attempt exhausted quota without a verdict. The public runner's 65-scalar failure currently reports an unexpected scheduler selection; the typed
ApplicationInputMismatchassertion is established separately by the direct admission tests. Recovery witnesses are logical fresh-host/WAL recovery, not physical power-loss testing. CI subsequently found one missing copyright header in the reproduction script. Commit2182281ba247ec5d09903bcfa216032798e63f5fcorrects it;scripts/check_spdx.sh crates/echo-edict-provider-verifier/tests/fixtures/compiler-produced-key-bound/build.pypasses in Docker. No RED/GREEN behavior cycle is required for this header-only change. The latest added refusal tests characterize existing rejection paths; no production behavior changed in that final test commit.Integration correction and adversarial review
The host witness caught an outdated schema hash embedded in generated helpers; package corroboration also caught stale fixture pins. Commit
bc0574abe4c471d60a7f0c441cb337bf00524a54updates the source template, regenerates the helper, reproducibly rebuilds the lowerer, and refreshes the checked package and fixture identities. The verifier component is byte-identical to the previous candidate. [claim:schema-closure, confidence:1.00]After this correction, the native provider suites pass; the isolated conformance/helper/host/package/resource suites pass 5 / 6 / 23 / 16 / 1 tests respectively (three explicitly ignored child entrypoints are exercised by parent witnesses). Provider package corroboration passes 17 tests, and its corpus passes 4. The fresh public application build reproduces the same retained executable-package and verification-report bytes, so the earlier execution evidence still refers to these exact outputs. These are scoped passes, not a full workspace pass.
Commit
302be08445138676dd54a2e1b99870bf3be2ee4dadds five malformed Core cases through both public provider entry points. Noncanonical decimal limits, missing canonical policies and limits above the supported maximum all produce typedUnsupportedSemanticsrefusals. The verifier executable-package suite now passes 44 tests, and strict clippy for that test target passes. This test-only follow-up characterizes existing refusals; no new behavior fix or retrospective RED is claimed. [claim:provider-parity, confidence:1.00]CodeRabbit accepted the need to keep semantic derivations separate and withdrew the overflow suggestion after verifying the private validated bound. Its review remains a comment, not an approving current-head review. The complete local gate still has the documented generated-Wasm lint failure, and new CI is pending.
