deps(proxy): move the socket proxy to sockguard 2.4.6 (review mirror) - #24
…malformed zstd frame crashing it
sockguard 2.4.6 updates klauspost/compress to 1.20.2 for GO-2026-6865 /
CVE-2026-116591, a panic on malformed zstd frames. It changes no code or
setting beyond that, so the policy and the limits the docs name are the
same. Pinned by tag and the multi-arch index digest in every compose file
and both store templates.
SECURITY.md still listed joining another container's process namespace as
an open way to root; owner isolation closed it, as the security defaults
page already says.
Sockguard references change from version 2.4.5 to 2.4.6. Compose manifests use updated image digests. Security documentation, the comparison table, and a policy comment also refer to the new version.
The Compose manifests and app-store manifests update the Sockguard image to version 2.4.6 and replace the pinned image digests.
Update documentation and policy references SECURITY.md, app/socket_policy.py, docs/comparison.md, docs/security-defaults.md
The documentation and policy comment reference version 2.4.6. SECURITY.md also changes the stated process-namespace access path for a compromised worker.
This PR moves the socket proxy to sockguard 2.4.6 without changing the socket policy. One comparison-table row now names a version that its linked snapshot does not show. This is a minor documentation inconsistency and should not block the merge.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to df18e
The update preserves the existing socket separation, ownership policy, and deployment permissions. No introduced or worsened exposure was identified in those configurations. The new image’s enforcement compatibility and interrupted-replacement behavior were not independently validated, leaving limited residual uncertainty.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The independently exposed unit is a worker host and its Docker daemon. A failure of proxy containment could affect co-hosted containers, data, and secrets, not merely one earner. Reusing the same new digest across deployment variants creates shared dependency exposure but does not itself establish a cross-host attack path.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
observed — The documentation continues to describe a conditional two-step symlink route from an allowed host-folder bind to host root. Both bind opt-ins default to non-bindable placeholder paths, and their configuration is unchanged by this PR. This is a documented pre-existing limitation, not a newly verified or worsened finding from the version bump.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
inferred — A compromised worker is the relevant request source: it can issue Docker requests through the filtered socket regardless of worker-side validation. The proxy is therefore the independent enforcement point for API allowlisting, body validation, and ownership isolation. A read-only mount of the upstream socket does not make the Docker API read-only.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — The existing ownership migration records progress atomically, retains backups, and supports retrying incomplete work. Its mixed-owner network handling refuses unsafe takeover. These safeguards counter migration-related containment concerns, but do not demonstrate the new proxy binary’s restart or rollback behavior.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Before broad rollout, record a digest-specific compatibility result using the existing live proxy scenarios, including ownership and namespace refusals, and exercise interrupted proxy replacement with recovery to the prior digest. This would address the remaining enforcement and recovery uncertainty without treating it as an observed vulnerability.

- Line 46: Update the Docker socket row in the comparison table so the sockguard
version matches the linked v1.71.1 snapshot, which pins 2.4.5. Keep the existing
