Review mirror; findings are fixed on the real PR.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Clarified that workers manage Docker through a filtered proxy, which blocks privileged containers and containers the worker did not create.
    • Updated deployment guidance to distinguish the worker, UI, and proxy roles, including which components access the Docker socket.
    • Clarified that the UI can run on its own to track earnings when Docker management is not needed.

…E.md and two pages

CLAUDE.md still said two containers, a worker that must have Docker socket
access and must be privileged. Since v1.71.0 the worker reaches Docker only
through cashpilot-socket-proxy, and since v1.73.0 owner isolation limits it
to what it created. faq.md and how-it-works.md said the same. The
socket-proxy docs test now covers CLAUDE.md and these phrasings.

Explain Change →

Walkthrough

Documentation now describes workers accessing Docker through cashpilot-socket-proxy and identifies operations the proxy refuses. The documentation regression test scans CLAUDE.md and checks for stale claims about required socket access and privileged workers.

Changes: Proxy access documentation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Document proxy access and check stale claims
CLAUDE.md, docs/faq.md, docs/how-it-works.md, tests/test_docs_say_the_socket_proxy_holds_the_socket.py
Deployment and security documentation describes proxy-mediated worker access, proxy restrictions, and which services mount the raw socket. The regression test scans CLAUDE.md and checks for outdated socket-access and privilege claims.

Merge Risk: Low · up to 141c6

The updated docs say the worker never gets the raw Docker socket. That is wrong for Unraid, TrueNAS, older Compose and direct docker run installs, where it can mean host-root access. The owner-isolation wording also overstates what the proxy blocks. Nothing changes at runtime, so this is a documentation fix to make before or soon after merge.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to 141c6

The runtime configuration is unchanged, but the new guidance overstates worker isolation for installations that still mount the host Docker socket directly. Those installations retain host-level authority despite the new assurance.

Retained concerns

  • Low · security · inferred: The new assurance that workers never receive the raw Docker socket is not scoped to proxy-enabled installations. The shipped Unraid template still mounts that socket directly, while the detailed security guide explicitly identifies direct-socket workers as root-equivalent. Operators could therefore infer an isolation boundary that their installation does not have. The underlying runtime exposure predates this PR; the introduced issue is the broader security assurance.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — For a direct-socket installation, control of the worker's Docker authority remains host-level authority on that worker's server. This exposure already exists; the PR changes its description rather than expanding runtime reachability. The inspected evidence does not establish automatic compromise of other fleet hosts.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • observed — The canonical security assessment contains no retained findings. The FAQ candidate remains deferred because a valid verification receipt bound to its exact evidence is absent. The source-supported guidance concern does not establish a newly exploitable runtime attack path.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The default Compose configuration supports the intended worker-to-proxy-to-Docker boundary. The FAQ's link to the detailed security guide supplies important qualifications, but its own unconditional wording obscures the distinction between that configuration and direct-socket workers.

Limit the owner-isolation claim.

The proxy allows unowned images and pre-labelled resources, including the Compose-created worker container. Describe the restriction in terms of labelled containers, volumes and networks. Update the same claim in docs/faq.md and the architecture summary in CLAUDE.md.

**What about security?**

Every service CashPilot deploys runs in its own container with every Linux capability dropped (a few services add back only the ones they declare) and `--security-opt no-new-privileges` set, so a process inside cannot gain privileges. Containers cannot see your host filesystem beyond the volumes a service declares. They CAN reach your local network by default, because Docker does not block that; [Protecting Your Home Network](home-network-security.md) shows how to put them on a firewalled bridge that reaches the internet but not your LAN, router or host. That bridge does not cover a service on host networking (Mysterium, today); the guide says what to do about those. Service credentials are encrypted at rest using Fernet symmetric encryption. Only the worker container requires Docker socket access; the UI container has no privileged access.

Scope the proxy guarantee to proxy-based installations.

Unraid, TrueNAS, older Compose files, and direct docker run workers can give the worker the raw socket. That gives the worker host-root access. State that the shipped proxy-based Compose files provide this protection, and link to the exceptions. Apply the same qualification in CLAUDE.md and docs/how-it-works.md.
