[Feature][Windows]: Add Update Checking and Automatic Update Options #301
Add an "Check for Updates" option to the OpenScreen system tray menu/settings so users can easily check whether a newer version of OpenScreen is available.
If an update is available, the application should notify the user and provide options for how updates should be handled.
Requested Features
Add a "Check for Updates" option to the system tray menu.
Check the latest available OpenScreen version.
Compare the installed version with the latest available version.
If a newer version is available, notify the user.
Allow the user to manually download the new version.
Add an Update Settings section with the following options:
Do nothing automatically — only notify the user when an update is available.
Automatically download updates — download the update in the background, but let the user decide when to install it.
Automatically download and install updates — download and install the update automatically when a new version is available.
Provide an option to manually Check for Updates at any time.
Show the current installed version and the available version when an update is detected.

Refs #313 + #358 (unreleased, ships after 1.9.6): the tray Check for Updates entry, the version comparison, the notification and the manual update are in — including in-place install rather than only a download link.
Keeping this open, scoped to what is left: the Update Settings section with the three modes you listed, and a background check — today nothing checks unless the user opens the tray menu.
Same feature as #368, which tracks the cross-platform framing.
Partly shipped in 1.10.0 (#414, and the auto-updater before it):
"Check for Updates" is in the tray menu, as suggested here — and also in the app menu, the editor's wordmark menu, and the HUD settings panel.
It compares the installed version against the latest GitHub release and names both in the dialog.
On Windows it downloads and installs in place for NSIS builds. Microsoft Store copies are deliberately left alone: the Store already updates them, and a GitHub download there would start a second, parallel install.
The running version is visible without an update being available (About, and the HUD settings panel).
Still missing, and why this stays open: the Update Settings section. Every check today is a click — there is no scheduled check and no preference for one. What is left:
notify only / automatically download / automatically download and install
the background check that would drive those options
This change is assigned to the Next Release release milestone and is not necessarily available in the latest downloadable desktop release yet. It is currently marked as status: pending release until a packaged release containing it is published.
