Summary

In the HUD window, sonner drew toasts in its default bottom-right corner, which is where the bar is: a toast covered Record, Pause, Restart, Cancel, Studio, Notes, the language button, Hide and Quit. Sonner holds a toast while the pointer is over it, and the pointer is naturally on the bar. Its close button did not take the click either: the HUD is click-through except over [data-hud-interactive='true'], and the toaster was not marked, so the click landed on the app behind.

  • The HUD mounts its own toaster (App skips the global one for hud-overlay), bottom-center, with its bottom offset above the whole stack: the bar plus any popover or notice open over it, so it never overlaps the bar in either orientation (computeHudToastBottom in hudGeometry.ts). That is the reserve the window already keeps for floating surfaces, so a toast costs no native resize.
  • The toaster sits in a data-hud-interactive="true" wrapper with no box of its own (the toasts are fixed), so the cursor poll lifts click-through over a toast and nowhere else, and the close button works.
  • The toasts are part of the rect the main process keeps on screen (addHudToastsToStack, height from sonner's own --front-toast-height and toast count, watched with a MutationObserver), so a HUD parked near the top of the screen does not push its toasts off it.

Note on #1136: like a popover, a toast near the top of the screen makes the main process nudge the window down to keep it on screen. Until #1136 lands, that nudge does not undo itself, exactly as for the language menu today. The #1136 fix (re-clamping from the rest position) covers toasts with no further change, since they arrive through the same content rect.

Testing

  • npx vitest --run src/components/launch/hudGeometry.test.ts src/components/launch/LaunchWindow.test.tsx: new tests for the toast offset (bar alone, popover open, tall vertical bar), sonner's collapsed-stack height, the rect kept on screen, and in LaunchWindow: toasts are bottom-center above the bar, move above an opened popover, sit inside the interactive wrapper so the pushed cursor over the close button lifts click-through, and enter and leave the content rect sent to the main process.
  • npm run test (4546 passed), npx tsc --noEmit, npx tsc -p tsconfig.test.json --noEmit, npm run lint.
  • Manual check left: on a real HUD (macOS and Windows), raise a toast (for instance the microphone-identification one at the start of a take) and confirm it sits above the bar and that its close button dismisses it with a real click.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Notifications now appear above the HUD controls, remain clickable, and are included in the visible HUD area.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Notifications no longer appear in the HUD overlay; other window types retain them.

…the click

Sonner drew the HUD window's toasts in its default bottom-right corner,
which is where the bar is, so a toast covered Record, Pause and Stop. The
window is click-through except over [data-hud-interactive='true'], and the
toaster was not marked, so its close button passed the click to the app
behind, while sonner held the toast as long as the pointer was over it.

The HUD now mounts its own toaster, centred above the whole stack (the bar
and anything open over it), marked interactive, and reports the toasts in
the rect the main process keeps on screen.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The HUD now positions toasts above its bar and open popovers, includes toast space in its measured content bounds, and marks the toast area interactive. The app-level toaster is not rendered in the HUD overlay window.

Changes

HUD Toast Behavior

Layer / File(s) Summary
Toast geometry and sizing
src/components/launch/hudGeometry.ts, src/components/launch/hudGeometry.test.ts
New helpers calculate toast position and stacked-toast height. Positive toast height expands the HUD stack bounds, with a minimum width for the toast. Tests cover positioning, sizing, and invalid measurements.
HUD toast rendering and interaction
src/components/launch/LaunchWindow.tsx, src/components/launch/LaunchWindow.test.tsx, src/App.tsx
LaunchWindow mounts a toaster above the HUD stack, observes toast markup to update its height and HUD bounds, and marks the toaster interactive. Tests cover positioning, click handling, and bounds after dismissal. App omits its toaster for the HUD overlay window.
