refactor(mcp): one source for MCP text, setPointerTrack through the runner - #1176
Conversation
…unner - Compose the server instructions per transport: the media block when served, the projects-and-checkpoints rules of the transport (stdio clients now get the checkpoint rule), then the agent prompt naming the MCP edit switch and, over stdio, no longer claiming nothing exports. - Messages and tool descriptions true on the transport that serves them. - One textResult helper for both servers. - Distinct setting names: "Agent edits" (in-app agent) and "MCP edits" (MCP server), in all 15 locales, and every refusal names the right one. - setPointerTrack hands its change to the runner: the open-in-editor guard and the checkpoint rule run before anything is written, refusals come back as tool results, and checkpoints keep the cursor sidecar so restoreCheckpoint puts it back. - Docs: mcp-server.md covers both transports; ai-editing.md (and its 7 translations) and the openscreen-demo skill describe today's behaviour. - Around line 374-385: Update writeSidecars and its save flow so a sidecar write
failure is reported to the client as a partial success: the document was saved,
but the pointer track was not. Preserve the original write error details while
avoiding a generic “Tool failed” result that implies nothing was applied.
Review comments at @skills/openscreen-demo/SKILL.md:
- Line 85: Update the Undo description around restoreCheckpoint and
setPointerTrack to clarify that restoring a checkpoint returns the cursor
sidecar to its checkpoint state, rolling back any pointer-track update made
afterward.
Review comments at @website/docs/ai-editing.md:
- Line 97: The checkpoint description incorrectly implies checkpoints remain
available until the session ends; update it to state that only the 20 most
recent are retained and older checkpoints may be evicted when newer ones are
created. Apply this clarification at website/docs/ai-editing.md:97-97,
