Met / AIC / CMA Roulette (Expo + React Native)

Random public-domain artwork from The Met, Art Institute of Chicago (AIC), and Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA). Runs on iPhone (via Expo Go), iOS Simulator, and Web.

Prereqs

Installing node.js on macOS

  • Node.js (LTS) + npm
    • Install with Homebrew: brew install node
    • Or download: https://nodejs.org
    • Check: node -v && npm -v

macOS and Debian/Ubuntu

  • Git (usually installed): git --version
  • Expo CLI (optional; you can also use npx expo):
    npm install -g expo-cli
    

NOTE: Node version >= 20.0 required.

1 Clone the repo

git clone https://github.com/gigeresk/met-roulette
cd Met-Roulette

2 Install deps

npm install

3 Start the dev server

npx expo start

Get started

  1. Install dependencies

    npm install
  2. Start the app

    npx expo start

You can start developing by editing the files inside the app directory. This project uses file-based routing.

Get a fresh project

When you're ready, run:

npm run reset-project

This command will move the starter code to the app-example directory and create a blank app directory where you can start developing.
