v0.9.1→v0.19.0Release Notes
mozilla/sccache
v0.19.0Compare Source
sccache 0.19.0
Summary
sccache 0.19.0 is mostly a correctness and robustness release: multi-arch caching no longer
risks stale universal objects, remote storage errors are no longer hidden as cache misses, the
multi-level cache tolerates unavailable optional levels, and distributed compilation got a long
list of fixes.
Highlights:
SCCACHE_CACHE_MULTIARCH, gcc/clang compilations with several-archvalues are now preprocessed once per architecture, so code guarded by__aarch64__,__SSE2__and the like reaches the hash. Older single-pass preprocessor cache entries are notreused, and multi-arch compilations are no longer distributed (#2871). Include validation in
the preprocessor cache is fixed (#2740).
produced in another checkout or on another machine no longer points cargo at paths that don't
exist (#2894).
.rmetaartifact notifications are streamed to cargo before the compilefinishes, including on cache misses and in client-side mode, so pipelining isn't held back
(#2875). Rust outputs are computed while the rest of the hashing runs (#2465).
CLand_CL_environment variables are honored (#2886),
/Tcand/Tpare handled as input arguments(#2904), and a
-Fdpointing to a directory no longer turns a successful compile into a fatalerror (#2933).
silently counted as misses (#2928). A multi-level cache can start when a level that its write
policy treats as optional is unavailable (#2890), and client-side raw hits are backfilled into
faster levels with per-level stats (#2913, #2915). TLS trust roots are restored after the
reqwest 0.13 upgrade (#2917). WebDAV gained
SCCACHE_WEBDAV_DISABLE_CREATE_DIR(#2872).toolchains in
lib64(#2852), crates without a metadata hash are packaged correctly (#2921),evicted toolchain archives are repackaged (#2893), job IDs no longer collide across scheduler
restarts (#2895), the Rust sysroot is part of the weak toolchain key (#2900), and the overlay
builder resolves toolchain and input paths from inside a chroot (#2908). Remote compile
failures now report the real exit code instead of "killed by signal" (#2932).
--show-statsnow shows the effective cache mode (#2914), and Rust compilationsthat couldn't be cached are broken down by crate type (#2897).

sccache 0.18.0
Summary
sccache 0.18.0 is a broad correctness and coverage release: a lot of compiler flags that used to
force a cache miss are now understood, several cache-key and multi-level storage bugs are fixed,
and the Azure backend gained passwordless authentication.
Highlights:
key, so two toolchains with different binutils can no longer hand each other the wrong object
file (#2843).
SCCACHE_BASEDIRSnow also strips base directories from the compiler arguments,so flags like
-ffile-prefix-map=/home/user/project=.stop tying an entry to one checkout(#2840).
/openmp:llvm, the/fsanitize*,/fsanitize-coverage*and
/fno-sanitize*families,/feature, arm64EC and fastfail,/d20bforceinline, and a largebatch of other flags (#2807, #2830, #2831, #2832), plus more clang CLI options (#2834). gcc now
marks flags as
TooHardwhen they would require caching something else (#2833).nvccdryrun parsing works with CUDA 13.3 (#2722), escaped quotes in Windows dryrunlines are protected before backslash flattening (#2811), and the
--diag-error/--diag-suppress/--diag-warnfamily is accepted (#2816).level no longer makes the whole storage read-only (#2778) — and reads are no longer issued twice
(#2835).
storage accounts that disable shared-key access (#2802).
which made those jobs fail on the build server (#2839).
restores the
posix_spawnfast path for child spawns (#2827), and daemonization now uses anallow-list for inherited file descriptors, fixing
makedeadlocks caused by leaked jobserver FDs(#2841).

sccache 0.17.0
Summary
sccache 0.17.0 is a significant release: it introduces a new client-side architecture.
Until now, every compilation was handed off to the long-lived sccache server, which did the cache
lookup and ran the compiler. In client-side mode, the client process does that work itself - the
server is only consulted for the shared state it owns (compiler info, dist client, stats). This
removes a round-trip and the server-side bottleneck, and gives noticeably better results on
developer workstations.
Client-side mode is opt-in for now: enable it with the
SCCACHE_CLIENT_SIDEenvironment variable(or the
client_side_modeconfig key). See docs/Architecture.mdfor the details.
Other highlights:
@responsefiles are now cached anddistributed correctly (#2755, #2772), and Rust
@argfilearguments are supported (#2782).disconnects, instead of running to completion on the build server (#2761, #2774). The
ToolchainPackagercfg gate was fixed so the dist code builds on ppc64le and s390x (#2749).-ivfsoverlayis treated as a preprocessor-only argument (#2767).Welcome to 4 new contributors!

sccache 0.16.0
Summary
sccache 0.16.0 is a smaller, stabilizing release on top of 0.15.0's multi-tier caching work, with a few new capabilities:
lddoutput parsing and toolchain packaging on non-x86_64 Linux (#2668).nvcc's--dependency-outputargument is now handled (#2708).SCCACHE_BASEDIRSfrom escaped-backslash paths on Windows (#2736), ignore empty-set environment values in config (#2639), and avoid the sccache wrapper when resolving the real compiler (#2720).Welcome to 4 new contributors!
